4. I live about 2 blocks from a Fairfax County Fire Station.
We go there in the Spring every year for their open house. Lot of good people work there.

They are among the world's best, if not the world's *very* best.

14. DH's ultra-wingnut fundie Catholic-convert ex-wife must be torn up right now
On the one hand, Haiti is about 80% Catholic. On the other hand, it's about 90% Voodoo.

She's hiding from the law and creditors in Fairfax, and other places. Her latest husband was a profiteer in the "secondary mortgage" market.

If guilt serves a purpose, I hope it moves her to donate some of that blood money they're hiding to the suffering people of Haiti.

They do it out of a commitment to excellence in the service of people in distress.

They've traveled all over the world, including the epic Turkish earthquake.

They keep a low profile and just get it done.

They were ready to go, almost instantly, and had to wait due to air traffic control
worries about the weight of the plane and the tons of supplies being handled by the
airport in Haiti...but they're off and now they'll do their job.
