Wanna get high? A San Francisco ballot initiative might tax & regulate the ganja...
San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi is proposing a June ballot initiative to let SF "license, regulate and tax the cultivation and sale of cannabis", reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Also considered in this initiative are regulations about locations, quantities, and safety. I think it'll easily pass given that San Francisco is a liberal hotbed, with 70%+ of the people voting for Gavin Newsom (D) in the most recent mayoral election (2007) and in general Democratic candidates in past years. In fact, in 2003 Green Party candidate Matt Gonzalez got ~35% of the vote if I remember correctly.
