1. Why is this at all surprising?
If this tragedy were to hit another country, I can't say we wouldn't see the EXACT same shit! And, given the "love" of certain countries, I surmise that "shit" would also be repeated here.

5. Agreed.
Sometimes it's truly amazing what will be celebrated by those who see themselves above that sort of behavior, but it happens all too frequently.

2. It's a terrible question ....
I live in LA and in 1994 we had a really big earthquake. Parts of the city were leveled and if FEMA had not helped us I don't know what we would have done. No one deserves a disaster of any kind either personal or on a level like a major earthquake.

I remember at the time hearing a right wing preacher say that LA deserved what happened because the city was a "Sodom and Gomorrah" of modern times. I was so shocked I just stood there for a minute struggling with the urge to smash the radio. I thought of the destruction I had seen and I thought he must be insane. This also was insane. People don't deserve misfortune. We all experience it, but when we do we deserve help and compassion which I find more and more lacking in this country.

3. Moving tectonic plates know no favortism.
It just happens. How people think anyone "deserves" anything like that is beyond me. It wasn't personal. It was just Earth doing it's thing. They, sadly, were at that particular spot when it happened. I wish more lives could be saved. I feel so bad for them. :(

4. a couple of years ago, there was a 7.4 Quake in Martinque...I felt the tremors
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 07:02 AM by HipChick
even though I was on a neighboring island..it was scary then, the difference is it occurred much deeper down in the earth 90 miles...rather than 6 miles like in Haiti..
a couple of centuries back an 90% city Port Royal and about 33 acres , after an earthquake, simply slid off into the ocean..
"Big Ones" have always occurred in the Caribbean - how any can attribute it to anything but an act of nature is beyond me..

8. Anyone who can ask that kind of question
has a profound lack of understanding of how the natural world actually works.

10. So what was this idiot's "reasoning" as to why Haiti deserved to be annihilated?
Is it a flaming nest of Liberalism like Massachusetts? Gay marriage legal? Full of non-believers?

If God truly hated all those things, he'd send a few massive earthquakes up this way.

Man, when people say the stupid hurts, they're really not kidding!!!
