Many of the questions and comments I got when I convened an open chat about health care reform last month expressed concerns about the direction of the negotiations to combine the House and Senate health care bills. We know the Senate passed a weaker bill. I’m doing everything I can to ensure your voice is heard and to fight for a public option in the final bill.

Please tell me what you think. We’ve posted a poll at countdowntohealthcare.com asking whether you think that we should oppose a final bill that doesn’t meaningfully improve upon the Senate bill, or whether you think the Senate bill takes enough positive steps.

Many of us are growing more anxious by the day that the negotiations to put the House and Senate health bills together will make too many compromises in favor of a Senate bill we know is weaker than the one passed in the House.

But there’s a limit to how many compromises we can accept before the health care bill becomes a reform bill in name only. That’s why I will oppose the final bill unless it represents a genuine improvement on the Senate bill.

I believe that the bill we passed in the House, though not perfect, would have been a major step forward in providing all Americans with quality, affordable health care that guarantees choice, and competition through a public option. Unless the final bill looks more like what we passed in the House, and less what we saw emerge from the Senate, I will not support it.

None of these jerks are "fighting" for us. All I've seen is capitulation. Weiner and the rest of the corporate lapdogs can go to hell.

6. Don't know why he's asking. It doesn't matter what we think.

His poll says 79% think he should oppose a final bill that doesn't represent a genuine improvement on the Senate Bill. I wonder how much that will influence him after the lobbyists are through selling their product.

Disappointed in him and Grayson who I thought would be fighting like mad to get a better bill and at least would vote against a bad bill on principle. But, I've seen the signs of capitulation. They will do a political calculation and decided how to vote. Except that means they will worry about who will finance them if they vote the 'wrong way'.

Grayson can afford to run his own campaign with donations from supporters. But good luck to them getting money from ordinary people if they vote for what is currently on the table. So, they have a choice to make, do what is right and see if they can win with the support of the little people, or go along with the rest of the sell-outs and be assured of huge donations to help them win.
