Only CNN Has News Gathering Infrastructure Left. The Other "News" Organizations On Cable |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 01:54 PM by KittyWampus
are really just venues for talking heads.
Cable News and print newspapers end up having to rely on news feeds from outside sources.
Their capacity to gather and cover real events as they unfold has greatly dimished as assets were sold off and let go.
We can file this under "The Sad State Of Our News Sources and Journalism Today In America".

1. Well MSNBC doesn't even call itself 'news' -- it's "the place for politics". CNN |
|
has been doing an outstanding job. As someone else posted, kind of like the "old" CNN.

2. I think that's an important distinction that we should all be wary of. |
|
I love new media's ability to give contrasting view points, but I'm getting a little sick of the punditry. There's a big difference between information and opinion of that information.

How else would the rubes of this country be programmed to believe that the earthquake is all barack HUSSEIN obama's fault?

8. I know CNN is corporate media and all, but they are doing an.. |
|
incredible job of delivering information out of Haiti. They had reporters all over Haiti within hours and I think Anderson Cooper has been keeping the world informed about the situation. Haitians all over the globe are using CNN as a lifeline to their loved ones.
Just like in so many great news papers, the actual news and editorials are two different things.

9. I have noticed a definate shift in CNN toward reporting and a |
|
diminishing in the opinion aspect of their product.
I like MSNBC for Olberman (entertainment and a bit of outrage), really like Lawrence ODonnel (in-your-face-liberal who will get a conservative down and not let him up) and the rest of the left leaning shows (morning joe notwithstanding) but have to recognize that it's just me feeding my own outlook.
CNN, it seems to me, has made a deliberate shift away from the opinion to the reporting. It isn't as much fun as Olberman (or Limbaugh for the right) but it's moving away from entertainment to real news.
May not be all the way there yet, but it's a welcome change.
