oy!-listening to Rick Perry and Kay Hutchison debate
what a pile of rhetoric-scented shit.I will give it to Kay-she stood up in strong support of Roe vs. Wade.Perry sounds like a whiny little brat.

3. I HATE Kay's politics, but she's a smart lady! I hope she
buries that POS Perry! He's worse than Shrub was as Gov of TX, and I didn't think that was possible!

7. On the other hand, she'll be harder for our nominee to beat.
Without a four way race this time, we might have a shot at it if Perry is the nominee.

Hutchison isn't horrible. She's not the smartest kid on the block, but she's fairly moderate. She looks brilliant compared to the others in her party these days. If it had to be a choice between Hutchison and Perry, that's an easy choice. Of all the Republican statewide candidates, she's the one I despise the least. At times I almost like her.

6. The way I see it:
Hey Baby Hutchinson beats Perry in the primary, she's the next governor.

Perry beats Hutchinson, Bill White is the next governor.

I hate to sell Bill White short and he could beat Hutchinson. But the issue to Texas voters will be whether to vote for a known quantity like Hutchinson, or to take a chance with White. It's up to White to sell himself on why they should take a chance. But I think KBH is too much in the voter comfort zone. No baggage, no scandal, just moderate Republican.

14. I think you're right.
People want a change, and they don't like Perry, but they've spent so long hating Democrats that it will be hard for them to vote for White. They might choose him over Perry, but Hutchison is a Republican who isn't tarnished with all of Perry's baggage. They'd vote for her.

White could beat her if he ran a great campaign. She's not overly bright--it used to be joked amongst staffers in Washington that she was voted least likely to become a rocket scientist--and she can get wishy-washy at times. She could lose her base, or if she tried too hard to keep them, could lose the center. But she's a much tougher challenge than Perry.

Perry's a very shrewd junkyard dog of a politician. He wins by dividing and conquering. Unlike a lot of politicians, he doesn't care if people like him, he just wants to win, so he takes hardline stands that will make the most rabid members of his base love him, and hopes that's enough. Never underestimate him--all of his opponents have. But his hardline stands have put him in a position where most Texans don't like him, and his only real hope is to make them hate his opponent more.

His strategy will be the same as last time. Win the most rabid base of the Republican Party by hating all of the right groups--gays, liberals, immigrants. That might win him the primary, then he just attacks white a liberal Democrat who loves gays and hates God, and hope he gets enough votes. It could still work, but for once Texas voters might be looking for more, and if so he's in trouble.

I still wouldn't count him out though.

10. Did you just hear the nurse's response to the advanced directive
question? I LIKE that lady! I'm sure she's a Pub, but Tx has a law that respects AD's. Perry said he'd repeal it if it is in fact a law here. The nurse' response was "I've been by the bedside of people who's family member had an AD, and I know what torture they go through. REPEAL IT? After nine uears Gov. WHY HAVEN'T YOU???
