Shadegg will not seek re-election
Source: azcentral.com (Arizona Republic)

Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., a member of one of the state's most prominent Republican families who entered Congress during the GOP revolution of 1994, announced Thursday that he will not seek re-election to a ninth House term.

"While representing the people of Arizona in the House was one of my goals in life, it is not the only one," Shadegg, 60, said in a written statement. "After 16 years it is time for me to take my life in a new direction and to pursue my commitment to fight for freedom in a different venue."

Shadegg and national Republicans immediately signaled that they believe they can continue to hold Shadegg's 3rd Congressional District, which leans toward the GOP. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., carried the Phoenix-based district over President Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential race.

4. I assume that the r's have someone lined up who will win in that district , he would
not quit unless they had a shoo-in. It is a very conservative district IMO.

5. deal-making time
Oh, come on. This is done all the time. Shadegg only needs a couple more years of service in Congress to qualify for a pension worth several million dollars, courtesy of us taxpayers who didn't have a g***damned thing to say about it. Trust me, Shadegg has been guaranteed the money he will need to "purchase" the additional years and collect those millions in the remaining years of his life. What? You didn't know that? My my. And it is not just the Federal government, people, it is government all the way down to 'townships' (yes, Virginia, townships still exist) and Fire Districts.

The republics have an excellent chance of retaining his seat this election cycle. More than excellent, and who knows what the future will bring, so now is the time to do it.

Not knocking the republics for this situation, democrats love it, too.

Has anyone seen W sober lately?

6. Where are the articles about how the GOP is losing more and more seats?
Or the articles about how the GOP is collapsing?

Oh that's right.... As Rep. Grayson so elegantly stated, when it happens to the GOP, it doesn't count. It's an "exception"!
