Apparently between Rachel's first and second shows yesterday (both live), |
|
Sprint decided it waive its fees for the text message donation to Haiti -- "in the spirit of charity".
All the other carriers had waived the fees which she reported in her first show, but Sprint said regular text fees applied but customers were free to purchase a text plan (?!)
That's the only way to get action from these companies -- shine the media light on them. It's satisfying to know Rachel's coverage garnered enough response for Sprint to, er, become charitable.
Good on you, Rachel! :yourock:

Nothing like a public shaming to make some corporations see the light.

3. Yay, did she tweet this? |
|
She said she would if they changed their policy.

4. Don't know about the tweet -- I'd recorded her second show and just now |
|
viewed it. If she mentioned the tweet, I didn't catch it.

No offense to swine intended.

6. At least two major credit card companies also will be donating fees |
|
incurred on charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations helping Haiti. American Express announced it earlier, and I believe Visa followed. This applies to fees from the date of the earthquake until the end of February.

8. Excellent! A win/win -- consumers get a break, the companies get some |
|
good PR which is sorely needed these days.

9. This is great! When Rachel shines a light on an issue.... |
|
it can garner change! She focused on The Family and their tax-exempt status re their house in D.C. and now that tax-exempt status has been reduced.

11. Don't forget about Uganda - they've backed off some of the most horrific elements |
|
of their "kill the gays" bill, as the result of American media pressure. MUCH of the credit has to go to Rachel!!
I know it should be scrapped completely, but I'm thrilled for what she's accomplished to this point.

12. Good point! I did leave that out and certainly should not have done so! |
|
She uses her "bully pulpit", if you will, in the best way and we are seeing the results.
