The tragic truth:Voters KNOW that the GOP could NEVER have passed a corporate-insurance-only mandate

When the overwhelming majority of voters support all Americans having access to a PUBLIC PLAN like Medicare, only to witness the Democrats they elect respond with a CORPORATE-INSURANCE-ONLY MANDATE that corporatists could NEVER have been achieved under the worst Republican rule, we’ve got problems.

Voters know that under Republican rule, taxing middle class health insurance benefits under a scheme that will let inflation classify every plan as “Cadillac” in time would have been a total non-starter (on both sides of the aisle).

Voters know that under Republican rule, Democrats would have been UNITED in opposing a plan that would permanently cement into place a health care paradigm based upon mandatory corporate insurance, rather than expanding Medicare.

Already the Public Option Bait & Switch (and the evanescent bait of a Medicare Buy-In) has caused the support for HCR to be reversed, and voter revulsion has caused even the safest Democratic seats to be in question.

Will the stench of the corprocrats destroy us all?

Or will voters see, as Americans need, a successful rebellion by principled Slaughter/Woolsey/Lee/Kucinich/Massa/DeFazio Democrats?

2. He could NEVER have passed it. Democrats would have been united, & ....

....even with unanimous Republican support (which he would NOT have achieved on this issue), he could never have gotten it through Congress.

5. The larger issue is that McCain wouldn't have dared propose (much less pass) a corporate-ins-mandate

I still would not have voted for mac and the quitter.
At this point I wont be going to the polls next time out unless there is a real progressive to vote for. I have been a registered dem since the day I turned 18.
I saw our ballots in Fla being shredded by the amBushco fiends. no fuckin way in hell will I EVER vote for an R.

4. progressives need to mobilize and take power back from the DLC; maybe
the tea baggers, as loathesome as their agenda is, can serve as an example?

they are trying to colonize the GOP:

6. Only Nixon could go to China
Nixon created the EPA. If we're not careful, the GOP will bring us single payer. Apparently the dems can't do it.

8. Republicans couldn't have passed NAFTA.
Republicans could not have destroyed AFDC.

As a poster said above, only Nixon could go to China.

This is not atypical, but it is deeply disappointing.

I voted for FDR, but I got Clinton instead.

17. Yes, I am tired.
Some people on this board somehow always manage to paint a negative picture of Democrats. It's almost subliminal.

14. It's not a fan club.
Let me ask you-- a few years back, when GOP's fanbase pledged their support for the party, no matter what it did... did you find that admirable? Did you even think it would be productive for their party, in the long-term?

20. I agree
This bill is a con job no matter how you look at it!

It has actually given me reason to fundamentally examine whether I will vote for Obama in the next election. I would have NEVER thought after his inuaguration he could have made me feel this way in such a short time.
