I have seen all the insult a Television Commercial can dole out |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-15-10 05:25 PM by ThomWV
The Discovery Channel's, "Cash Cab" is the program. A commercial for some kind of dog food just came on and in it they have a little talking dog that brags about how much better his (male voice) shit is with the good dog food he's getting - can prominently displayed in the background. Got that? The full claim of this commercial is that if you buy their dog food the quality of your dog's shit will improve.
Now that, boys and girls, it an astounding new low even for cable/satellite television. Can anyone say 'crass commercialism' anymore?

2. I don't see an insult to you hidden in there. |
|
I have however heard hardcore dog people talk about the different foods they feed, and how the better the food is the less poop there is. I assume it's a matter of efficiency.

4. I started to write something a bit different and the title reflected it - since edited |
|
When first started to writ it I placed the commercial as a personal affront. After a paragraph I didn't like it so I changed the tone but forgot to go back and find a better title. I recognized the mistake about a minute later and went back and edited the title. It was quick of you to notice, I should have noted what I did in an "On-Edit" section at the bottom of the post. Please forgive me the indiscretion of not doing so.

I was halfway myself to writing a fuddy-duddy-ish post about how we never used to discuss such things in public, much less on the TV, and re-routed my brain. Your posts make sense more than mine do. :hi:

13. The dog says "Now I'm not just a 'good pooper'. I'm an 'optimum pooper'. |
|
My husband and I just saw it on DIY and were laughing about it. The Chihuahua is so cute and the concept of being an "optimum pooper" is funny. At least we thought so.

I think the dog food is claiming that it's better for your pet's digestive health.
I can't say I found it insulting.

6. it's not so much the quantity, but the quality. and it is important as an indicator... |
|
sorry you were offended, op.
this ad makes much more sense to me than most dog food ads do...

8. Yep, it's all about the shit. |
|
As a "hardcore dog person", I can tell you that ONE of the signs of a quality food (along with coat improvement, eye brightness, and general good health)is a decent dump. Big, gloppy ones point to a lot of fillers and not much nutritional value. That being said, I just saw the ad too, and was LMAO.

7. Um, as a dog owner, I can categorically attest to the fact that a good quality dog food does indeed |
|
make a difference in my dogs' shit. Their shit is more compact, less smelly, and they shit less often -- due to the fact that they are absorbing more nutrients and shitting out less useless undigestible filler.
A dog food commercial touting the fact that it improves your dog's shit is not the least bit outlandish, imho.

9. Boner pill ads did it for me.. No lower than that |
|
I can just imagine parents all over the place having to explain what those pills do.... to 4 yr olds..
Little kids pay a LOT of attention to ads..
I remember when our middle son was about 3.. he came running into the kitchen telling me he wanted a "handicat"..
Of course I missed the commercial..
Days later he pointed out the "handicat" during a March of Dimes commercial.. He saw a kid in a wheelchair, and the announcer called him handicapped...My son thought the ad was for the handicat.. "you-know-mom..a roller-chair"..
His older brother was not in the room, or he would have assured him that a wheelchair was not really a toy. Our oldest spent LOTS of time in a hospital and although he did not need one to get around, he would often tool around in one, when he "helped" the nurses.. One night after we left for dinner, we returned to see him tied to the nurses station with an ace bandage looped through the wheel.. He and another boy had been sneaking down to the "wheelie-room" and having races down the hall

The dog owners are scooping, I could care less about the consistency of their canine's turds. And for those owners who don't, the scat-and-scooters, phantom deuce-droppers, and oh-I-forgot-a-baggers, watch out when you're on my corner. An angry chimp has NOTHING on my throwing arm.
Oh, and have you heard of the Bean-o for pets? It's called Cur-Tail.

15. Not nearly as disturbing as the poor woman |
|
who doesn't buy her medical supplies at the proper place so she has to re-use catheters.
They can advertise products for every imaginable body function. Except condoms--can't have people not having unwanted children and avoiding STD's now can we?

|
She talks about having to boil them, and I can't help it...
All I can see in my imagination is a gigantic pot of chicken soup on the stove complete with meat, vegies, and al dente catheters.

I try to take comfort in the fact that I have cats, and to date, no one has made a food to make them better poopers. They do just fine on their own. ;)

18. Since my days start with watching three dogs poop, |
|
I can assure you that an "optimum pooper" is a thing of joy. Better nutrition for the dogs, easier cleanup for me (and yes, I always pick up after them. Always.) The voice, BTW, is that of David Duchovny, who has been doing voice work for dog food commercials for a couple of years now.

22. So, speaking of dog shit... |
|
anyone who has, or has ever had, a dog that eats its own dumps must know how completely bizarre it is to try and make those shits "taste bad" to the dog eating them.
Seriously, how could dogshit taste any worse than it does?
PS...I've tried lots of things, and am now using crushed pineapple.
