First you take care of yourself |

then your team mate
Then your equipment
Finally your patients.
This is the priority for any crew anywhere in the world.
Since the medical teams at the MASH unit that CNN is showing don't have the security, that is why they are about to bug out.
And for those of you who question this... well, sorry, this is why they need the cavalry, as in armed cavalry, don't care who sends them. And the rules of engagement, sorry to say it, will have to include fire if fired upon, or use Non Lethal to disperse riots.
All sensible folks who find this disgusting... well guess why security is part of the planning?

5. Except that they need riot-trained infantry (or MPs) instead of the armored cav, you're dead on. |
|
Actual cavalry might not be that bad a suggestion, however. Horses are great for crowd control.

I hope they brought the riot gear
:-)
And they should be in country faster than the Marines.

10. A worsening security situation is as predictable in the aftermath of a 1st rank disaster like this |

as the sun coming up in the east. All it takes is time.
Unfortunately the UN mission was never large enough to handle this and the only country close enough to send the large number of troops required to provide security for the Haitian people and international aid workers in the critical first few days of this disaster would have been rebuffed. That country is Cuba. if they had sent troops to maintain order accompanying their civilian relief workers we probably would have sunk the whole flotilla, doctors and all. It's another layer to the tragedy - and a completely unnecessary layer.

we are both looking the other way, and they are allowing us to use their airspace.
So my hope is that this disaster will open the door to take the relations out of the freezer, and since Fidel is no longer in charge, Raul might just do it... And obama is a coalition building guy.
