Did you see the story just aired on CNN about the missing girl from Lynn
University?

She was in Haiti (I think on a program to help feed the poor), in the Hotel Montana. Her parents got word that she'd been rescued, was okay, so they traveled to FL to meet her when she arrived home. They showed her dad hustling to the flight, carrying duffel bag, such a happy, excited look on his face.

They get to FL and they're told they had received "bad intelligence" -- his daughter was still among the missing.

He was gracious in thanking all the help Lynn University was providing, all the support from everyone across the country, then turned to the camera and said "Please, President Obama... father to father.." and gave a plea for help. It was heartwrenching.

Can you imagine? Worrying, learning your loved one is okay, joyous, then to find that's not the case at all. I'm so sorry.

2. Yes and unfortunately we will have few of these
sad is that the President cannot micro manage rescue efforts. It is the decision of on site commanders where rescue teams are sent.

4. True... but many will expect it from him...
And blame him personally for any and all erroneous information in this, and any issue he faces.

10. Yep. I hope people see those pleas
as just hoping the President will put our all into it. Holding him personally accountable would be unfair, and from the right wing kooks, ridiculous. But they're ridiculous anyway, so I hope he doesn't even listen to them any more.

3. I saw it. It was heartbreaking. It reminded me of
the Sago mine disaster in WV when the families were told the miners had survived and they burst into joy only to be told it wasn't true. Here is hoping the story turns out differently for this family.

5. Who in the world told her parents that she was okay?
They evidently even gave them a flight number. God. Bad intelligence is one thing. I can't imagine telling folks for sure their loved one is okay unless I KNEW they were okay.

7. Some of the other students had been rescued and were coming home, so
they went to meet that flight. (And her dad said "I am SO HAPPY for the students who are home safe...")

I'm guessing the the information from Haiti to Lynn University was incorrect. It's understandable with all the confusion and chaos.

6. That was painful
I feel it for those parents.
I did smile when I heard that those who survived were writing reports about their work in Haiti -poolside. Yeh right!

Now for the serious question - tell me about Lynn University. I never ever heard about that institution before? What sort of Security could they hire to search for people's kids. I could see a nonentity institution like that messing things up. Why did they go public until they were sure of the facts other than for the publicity?

8. I know nothing of them either. I'm guessing they received word from Haiti and
of course wanted to notify the parents of the good news immediately. They probably thought they had all the facts. I'm not sure they had security searching for the kids, or if they were just among those who were rescued and were able to get word back to the University. I didn't think the word "intelligence" really meant anything more than "information".
