Will the economy or health care reform be the big issue of 2010?

My guess is that a Republican will be elected governor of Michigan this coming election; primarily because the economy in this state is in the crapper.

2. I can't help thinking that real health care reform, like a public option, or single payer...

might've eased the uncertainty of the public over the shitty economy. It's hard for the government to "fix the economy". 51 votes in the Senate could've passed an extension of medicare to the general public through reconciliation.

Lack of doing anything... well, the economy is felt more acutely... prospect of mandated healthcare... the economy is felt even more acutely still.

The economy, the voters will think... but I think health care reform/horseshit is going to shape perception of the economy for many many many...

I guess the Democrats are banking on the 'pre-existing-conditions & gainfully employed in an occupation that still provides benefits' demographic. Good luck with that...

5. Exactly. Meaningful healthcare reform would've been the single biggest

boost that could've been delivered to the economy. It would've got consumers spending, and small businesses hiring. Instead, they used it to service the powerful insurance industry, and wasted the opportunity.

For voters, I'm quite sure it will be the economy.

For politicians, it will be health care reform...in the form of them patting themselves on the back.

But I voted for the economy beause I believe our current military expenditures ($1 trillion in 2010) will break the bank.

The fuckers think they will be taking away Social Security and Medicare to pay for the obscene amount of money the Department of War blows on useless shit each and every year. I doubt this will happen.

Health care, btw, is directly correlated to the economy. The escalation of costs, and the inability of large numbers of people unable to afford coverage is part and parcel of our economic condition.
