Wealthy corporate influence dominates both the Democratic and Republican Parties.
The majority of lawmakers get their marching orders, and actual legislation written by, those they are suppose to be overseeing and protecting us from.
Can we do anything about this arrangement?

Well, first off, we are too busy fighting with each other over stupid "party" lines. A poisonous partisan game.
The mainstream media/talk shows (TV & radio) do not help.
In fact they fuel the division. Listen to them with your critical thinking caps on or turn them off.
Divide and Conquer is the name of their game.

We can overcome and education is key:

Liberals are only happy when they are miserable. If things are going well, they find tragedy someplace, even if they have to create it themselves.

Some folks are born leaders, and some are born dissenters. Guess which ones we are? (Hint: The Teabaggers are NOT genetically coded to dissent. They are a laughing stock)

And the old definition of a "leader" is someone who figures out where the crowd is headed and runs to the front then shouts "follow me".

At one time I was very much the idealist, then I encountered real life, time after time after time.

Now I'm an idealist at heart but with a tough exterior armor of cynicism because being a naked idealist is just too damn painful.

5. Fighting? Hardly...

I know there are some who have been not playing nice here in the sandbox, but so be it. It's something you won't see on a rushpublican site...spirited debate.

It boils down to perspective...DU is not the Democratic party nor does it have much affect on anything outside of the few leach sites that like to obsess about what is said here. Speak to Democratic voters and it's rare to find one who knows about this place...and I've yet to meet another DU'er (at least outright) in my 8 years playing around in this place. Thus a lot of the angst and fighting here is a tempest in a teapot.

That said, it was expected that once in power, the onus would be shifted to this administration and the Democratic party to not screw up. It hasn't been easy as with so much partisan division (encouraged by the corporate media) and the mess left behind by the GOOP and the boooosh regime to do much more than damage control during this first year...feeding the corporate meme (and picked up by those who haven't gotten their way) that this Administraion and Democrats are failures.

Yes, education is very important, but so is perspective. The mood of the country overall is nervous, the economy is still a major concern and that's what will drive this year's elections. In November, many will check their pocketbooks and vote accordingly. If the economy improves, so do the Democratic party's chances in November. If they don't, they will lose seats and expect nothing but gridlock for the next two years.
