Minnesota Nurses Association helping coordinate emergency nursing mission to Haiti

ST. PAUL - National Nurses United, the nation’s largest organization of registered nurses, Wednesday activated its nationwide disaster relief program to recruit nurse volunteers to provide assistance to residents of earthquake-devastated Haiti.
Hundreds of thousands are feared dead or injured in the quake that hit the Caribbean island nation Tuesday.

The Minnesota Nurses Association, which represents more than 20,000 RNs across the state, is asking all nurses available to participate in the emergency efforts to register online.

“We are calling on nurses across Minnesota and the entire United States to join us in this critical relief effort,” said Minnesota Nurses Association President Linda Hamilton, RN. “Nurses can help provide the crucial medical expertise, patient care and support needed in response to this tragic situation.”

The MNA is a founding member of National Nurses United, the new national labor organization that represents more than 150,000 RNs across the United States. The NNU is affiliated with the Registered Nurse Response Network, which sent hundreds of nurse volunteers to the Gulf region following Hurricane Katrina, and also sent volunteers to Sri Lanka after the South Asia tsunami.

1. This is wonderful. Once the logistical problems of reaching people

on the island are resolved, nurses will need to be there caring for so many desperate, sick and injured people.
