1. actually you are correct |
|
this is a message board that is as addicted to outrage as an addict may be to heroin. People here NEED to feel superior, incensed, and outraged. It fuels an ego that is no different from the very mirror they fight so stridently against. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic and obvious.

3. My post is ambiguous and deliberately so: Sometimes we WANT outrage. |
|
Usually, when the question in the title of the OP is asked, the speaker is wanting to see outrage but doesn't seem to see it.
That being said, you're not "wrong" - I wrote it to be ambiguous to see what kinds of thoughts and reactions would come up.

and I understand the initial ambiguity, although provactive, by its very nature.... It evokes a response nonetheless. For me, it solidifies what I see on this left of center board and is the same thing I see on the right of center boards out there like Free Republic...Everyone believes they are right. I actually find it comical...not because I am smarter or wiser, it is just becaue everyone else thinks they are and I know I am not.

10. For most people, not all, emotional energy is a prerequisite to action |
|
So for that reason I'm inclined to tolerate it as much as I can. But if you can keep your healthy objectivity without preventing action on the whole then that's great.
Everyone thinks they're right, yeah, because if they didn't they'd shut up and listen approximately 98% of the time, except when asking questions, perhaps. :)

4. I was just stopped by a cop for a tail light. My outrage is NOT in the glove compartment |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 11:35 PM by EFerrari
that's for sure because I just ransacked it for my paper.
In any case, I'm 'way beyond outrage any more. Past depression and probably sneaking up on embracing my corporate overlords.

14. Beyond outrage is action. Beyond outrage is inaction. |
|
We all have the right to remain silent. Is that the only right we will exercise?
Nothing personal here to EFerrari, I know EFerrari is "biased" toward appropriate actions.

15. Beyond outrage there is a reserve of menace. |
|
Or what might seem menacing to anti-democratic actors.
And not menace in the sense of violence but in the sense of knowing and speaking and living.
They hate that.

13. Yup, yup, and yup for sure. |

The Empire has returned indeed.
I put on my non publisized blog in "03. . ."the fall of Rome redux."
Same old tiresome story.
A major yawn fest.
Hoping and praying for a different conclusion for a change and for the first time in recorded history.
As we all know, history is written by the victors, not the vanquished.
Perhaps let's create a more equitable future through consciousness alone.
Lord knows we can't to it through the rule of law anymore.
Too bad and silly me.

7. I have been having outrage fatigue. |
|
It isn't just on DU - Facebook seems like a good outlet for people to bitch about every little thing. And in real life... ug... outrage over every f'in little thing and all things Government. The city can't even mail out information on Census jobs in the water bills w/out people calling to bitch that they weren't given the opportunity to voice their opinion on if "their" tax payer dollars should be used for the paper... People bitching about the condition of the roads (b/c of SNOW) while in the next sentence bitching about the budget being almost gone for salt... Letter to the Editor in my little right wing county have deteriorated into total insanity.
It's an epidemic. The tea-bagging a-holes have started a movement that confuses bitching and outrage with civic engagement and involvement IMO.

16. Lets see I was out raged when Nixon thought the way out of VN was by going through |
|
Cambodia. I was out raged that Nixon decided that being a war president meant he was above the law and he could practice a little B&E on anyone who decided to run against him. I was out raged when JFK, MLK, RFK were murdered. I was out raged when the police down south sicked their dogs on black folks for wanting the right to vote. I was out raged that Reagan ran his mouth about Carter not doing enough in the Iran hostage crisis. I was out raged when finding out Reagan traded weapons for hostages behind Carters back.
I was out raged when Nancy Reagan just said no to drugs while her husband was neck deep in the drug trade and using the money to buy weapons to the Contras after congress told him no money for the Contras because of their murdering tactics towards the people they said they were trying to free. I was out raged when Reagan fired the air traffic controllers and right after a plane load of people or 2 died on american soil. I was out raged when after everything Reagan and his goons did, one person was convicted of all the crimes and spent 0 days in prison.
I was out raged when Clinton was impeached for lying about a personal matter yet not one person has been charged since with lying to congress or getting caught in someone elses panties or breifs other then their spouse. I was out raged when people elected a nit wit they thought they would enjoy having a beer with. I was out raged that * did everything Nixon did and more and not one eyebrow was raised. I was out raged when * invaded Iraq because Saddam attacked the USA on 9/11, well that was a lie so * said he had WMD's pointed at the USA, well that was a lie too so * said Saddam tortured and murdered his own country men so we had to take out Saddam. I was out raged learning * then tortured and murdered Iraqi citizens or imprisoned them because they were suspected terrorists, then hid them from the american justice system.
What good is out rage? All it did was stress me out and gave me a heart attack at the rip old age of 52. Now I calmly turn off the TV programs that try to get an out rage out of me, post on DU and go about changing those around me to give up the out rage and do something positive about the freaking problem.
