The Republicans are deeply into dark self-deceptions.
To thine ownself be true.

Even if you should lie to others, you should never lie to yourself.

But that is what the Republicans are doing. They are lying to themselves.

First of all, most have a difficult time admitting they were wrong for supporting George W Bush and Cheney and the military complex, as they led us into ill-advised wars and doubled our debt. They have a difficult time admitting that.

Secondly, and perhaps their biggest self-deception, they have no qualms or inward honesty. They are now very worried about running up more debt and generally fearful of every idea the Democrats might come up with, believing that President Obama might spend more money than their last prodigal son. And, worse still, he might spend it on social programs, instead of the war machine.

They are fake. They are plastic. And we are supposed to believe that the people are stupid enough to put these people back in charge? And they will balance the budget? And I have a bridge for sell...

1. They're kind of stupid too
http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/74507-worst-rnc-cash-flow-in-a-decade

"A 2009 spending spree has left the Republican National Committee (RNC) with its worst election-year cash flow this decade.

The largest GOP party committee has $8.7 million in the bank heading into an election year with 37 governors’ races, a dozen major Senate contests, dozens more in the House and an all-important redistricting cycle on the horizon.

Said one RNC official: “It is very troubling, and the thing is, most people don’t understand this. But it is really troubling.”

The RNC had $22.8 million in cash and no debt when Michael Steele was elected chairman at the end of January, but has since seen its cash on hand drop to less than $9 million at the end of November."

3. Well maybe they can use the "Missing" trillions that were reported on 9-10....
or perhaps the "Missing" billions that were supposed to be going to Iraq?
If they can't find some of that then perhaps their ever so rich corporation friends can shell out some bail-out money for them. :P

2. Take all the common sense espoused
by the Hoopleheads and fluff it up and it wouldn't fill a thimble.
If they had the education and a firm enough grip on reality to know what they were talking about, they'd be embarrassed to say it. But they don't, so they do.

5. compartmentalized thinking is a symptom of authoritarian conservatism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_authoritarianism

Milton Rokeach's dogmatism scale was an early attempt to measure pure authoritarianism, whether left or right. The scale was carefully designed to measure "closed mindedness" without regard to ideology. Nevertheless, researchers found that it correlated with political conservatism.<7> In a similar line of research, Philip Tetlock found that right wing beliefs are associated with less integrative complexity than left wing beliefs. People with moderate liberal attitudes had the highest integrative complexity in their cognitions.<8>

6. I think I disagree
I think they are stark raving mad and really believe that taking care of people is evil and that killing is good. Plain fucking nuts is what they are.

7. Many republicons who consider themselves 'christians' are into torture
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 07:43 AM by SpiralHawk
The republicons defend torture, even though it is clearly EVIL, and even though Christ himself was brutally tortured. Now modern-day republicons "do unto others." That's some massively DARK self-deception.

8. Dems have consciences, while Repubs have advocates. They think in terms of self-interest.
Ever notice how a Repub will think you're crazy if you believe something to be true that may not be 100% good for the self, or self-critical in any way? They think Dems are "against themselves" or "think they're God." That's what a conscience looks like to people who do not think that way.

Rationalized self-interest, and deceiving yourself into believing it is JUSTICE to act like a sociopath b/c everyone else is worse than you. That's the Republican way.

9. the largest lie I've heard and read is
"We didn't support * at all, he was not a conservative." "I never voted for the person", "*s policies were geared more towards domestic issues than providing for defense".

I mean, they are regular regurgitators of lie, after lie.
