Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 09:00 AM by FrenchieCat
Last I checked, Democratic Underground is all about
working hard for Democratic wins,
not about promoting Democratic loses.

DU RULES

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.

Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party.

We are two days away from a general election.
Please refrain from discouraging those of us
working to better this country.

If we want to be demoralized,
we know where to go,
and it isn't supposed to be here.

IT IS POLLING AS A TIGHT RACE.
I'm not sure what folks don't understand about that....
but the negativity could infect others,
and we really just don't need that.

No one is forced to help,
but certainly, there is no need to do harm.

THANK YOU!

1. It is a Special Election, not a General Election
But other than that, I agree with you. I will be very upset if we lose Teddy's Senate seat to the nude model.

3. It is a general election as opposed to a primary.......
during a general election, wether it is special or not,
DUers must be supportive,
or they can't just post about something else.

What they cannot do is work for the Republican party by
demoralizing Democrats here who want this seat won
by a Democrat.

29. Not "vague" at all. In fact, quite specific if I'm understanding
it correctly. If discouraging the morale of would be voters is not against the rules, it certainly should be. Otherwise, as a democratic website, DU is obviously a sham.

5. What reality is.....
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 08:17 AM by FrenchieCat
are a bunch of fucked up Democrats here working against our party.

See that's not reality; that's just easy....
anyone can do it,
all it takes is a lack of conscience,
and being nothing more than a poseur.

7. As well as the ones who are blistering Coakley herself. I hope the admins take a look at those
posters too.

Blaming her for being a bland candidate, bad campaigner, cold, etc etc etc.

All to turn a blind eye to the real dynamics playing out here in MA.

I am going to vote for her, even though this health care bill sucks.

27. a poseur, eh? I'll give you the same reply I posted elsewhere - what a crock
"That "60th vote" is getting us soooooo far forward, huh?

"if they cannot have things exactly their way, they will take their toys home" - I am so sick of this idiot charge. Like most progressives I've blistered my feet and inflamed my ear walking and talking for Ds I knew full well were only marginally better than their R opponents. I have turned out voters in poor neighborhoods at 8:45 PM on election night to win a squeaker by a few votes - and then seen that D winner never, not once, go and talk to those poor neighborhoods or respond to their concerns for their entire term. I have done this for years and years. And I am done with it. They can win or lose without my help, since it makes absolutely no difference in the big picture of our onward march to third-world Oligarchy. If Coakley loses the fault will lay squarly on the Dem Party for playing nice with the Banksters and Insurance Vampires. NOT with progressives who've been begging them to act for the people.

"even if it means people will be hurt more because of their actions" - well guess what? People will still be hurting under this abomination of a health care Bill. And I for one assign no more or less importance to the lives of those who will still be bankrupt, still afraid to go to the Dr cause they can't afford it, still even die than to those who will get some marginal help. And guess what? That help is going to come from the taxpayers pockets and will be taken out of our hides somewhere else - in other services, education funding, infrastructure spending that is desperately needed. And people will die and be crushed by those cuts too. It's all a hat trick - "look over here!"

Well, I, for one, am done with it. I find myself totally unable to care one whit if Coakley loses.

It should be a wake-up call for the Dems indeed. However, their history is that they will take exactly the wrong lesson from it.

Ordinary people out here on the street are in a rage at what's going on. The Ds are going to reap that whirlwind, and have no one but themselves to blame."

If you want to call being unable to summon the slightest interest - other than dreading listening to the cackles and hoots of the other side - in whether or not Coakley wins "working for the other side" or whatever you term it, go right ahead. I didn't choose to be indifferent. I just know a reality that seems to escape you: when people bang their heads against a brick wall without breaking it long enough, they pass out - thus, your progressive indifference. And ordinary people, who know they are getting screwed but don't always know why or how, lash out by voting against. Thus, MA may go for a Teabagger. And the Ds have no one but themselves to blame.

about the results of something that hasn't even happened yet,
promotes it happening.

You are infecting those of us who want to make phone calls,
and don't considering Coakley arrogant or a bad politician.

You might want to spend your time dissing the Republican in the race
instead. Maybe if you try it, you might like it.

20. thanks. of course it's not my message. central or otherwise.
It's pretty obvious that in my opinion, the reason this race is so close is largely due to Coakley's failures as a candidate, and not the fault of President Obama or the national party- not saying there isn't some of that but I believe that she's largely responsible for the race being this close.

With all the bashing of this administration, you coulda fooled me. Not that there shouldn't be any criticism of Democrats, but the non-stop bashing of the party and those who support it and the party on the whole has made a real mess of the sandbox.

21. Toughen up, you get demoralized too easily. As a MA voter I find
the recognition by many on DU about what is going on in this election and its national implications energizing.

I am hoping that this has put enough scare into the Dems to cause some course correction, if so, that is a good thing.

To be clear, I do not want Brown to win, I do not want Kennedy to win and while I do not think that the Dems deserve any reward for their general lack of leadership and courage over the last 3 years, it appears that the only way I can prevent Brown or Kennedy from winning is to vote for Coakley.

22. You know, it took a lot for me to call MA about it's own Senate race......
and I don't need the depressed talk
right now....
and no one should either.

It is supposed to be a tight race,
but some DUers are calling it for Brown.

That is demoralizing, no matter which way you look at it.

If folks want to discuss how terrible of a candidate Coakley is,
they shouldn't be doing it here, two days before the election.

26. You think it's 'depressed talk'
but the thought of losing the seat seems to have motivated many people to participate in Coakley's campaign. Of course, most of them haven't spent the past few months insulting anyone who disagrees with them, so they probably have better communication with that branch of the party.

Call me "crazy" but I think that there just might be some subtext to this situation that deserves some reflection and discussion on the part of liberals on a liberal discussion board. Sorry if that has upset your very important little apple cart.

32. About those rules...
Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

I have not seen people working to defeat Coakley or elect Brown. I have seen some people who are pissed off this race is so close and have opinions about how it got this far. Outside of one stupid poll someone put up a couple of days ago, I've seen no evidence that any DUer actually wants to see this seat fall into the hands of the Republicans. Are there some who think that this race tightening up as it has might be a needed wake up call for the party in general? Perhaps. I have posted several times saying it is important to hold this Senate seat yet some of the rudeness of the people who have been on the 'bash the left' bandwagon have not made that easy. Bashing people over and over for their opinions is not persuasive and will, likely, suppress the vote just as surely as any negative opinions about recent policies we have seen the party support.
