Sure, Berlusconi is a lowlife, but the poll was about which RW parties would receive support. It's not a referendum on the sleazebag.

2. If true, another reason besides all that empty-calorie pasta, not |
|
to live in Italy.
(Yes, I realize I'm strange because pasta doesn't turn me on. I'd rather have a pasta made of spinach or some zucchini, not flour).

their government in many respects is worst than ours in corruption, and their social services aren't exaclty up to par with the other European countries, or even ours. Very backward conservative religious beliefs, widespread xenophobia and mysoginism that is intrinsic in the culture. Really, Italy is probably one of the least progressive places in all of Euorpe.

6. And an openly lesbian woman was elected mayor in Texas... |

I understand there are progressive areas, especially in the north of Italy, but generally it has a rather conservative culture and lately conservative politics. But that is definitely worth something.

But the most politically progressive communities and demographics in Italy are far more radically leftist than anywhere in the U.S. Parts of Texas would certain elect a lesbian, but would they elect a lesbian Marxist intellectual who wears a pentagram?

10. How "progressive" it is depends on where you are |
|
And, by the way, believe it or not, there is more to life than politics.
