Jan. 17FRANKSVILLE  Elizabeth Henderson has a concise prescription for what ails the nation's health care system:

Limit the federal government's role.

"I want government out of my life. I can make my own decisions," Henderson, of Union Grove, said Saturday, as she and others gathered at a "tea party" to protest the health care legislation pending in Congress and other issues.

The event, sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, included speeches from radio talk show host Vicki McKenna and Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher, filled a farm field. Organizers said it drew an estimated 3,000 people, but that number couldn't be verified.

There are two separate health insurance bills, one passed by the Senate and another by the House. Lawmakers must resolve the differences between the two bills before a measure can be sent to President Barack Obama. The legislation, supported by Democrats and opposed by Republicans, would provide health insurance to more than 30 million people who currently lack coverage while preventing insurers from refusing coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.

Supporters, including Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), say the legislation is the right thing to do for people who have little or no health insurance. They also say the bill will help reduce costs by focusing on preventive care for people who currently cannot afford it.

but they can't drive on public roads, they get no police protection and they get no use of fire departments. And to be perfectly fair, all churches will lose tax exempt status. And the ones in jail will have to pay room and board.

each of the tea bags (since I see they are a lot of older people like me) should sign up so they can be dropped from Social Security and Medicare.

If the event was closed to all but the invited, the number is whatever the organizers say it is. Otherwise, counting to 3,000 can be done in minutes.

I'd surmise the teabaggers wouldn't miss public education as the goal for their children is not critical thinking but sheep that follow the herd.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

10. These people are clueless to how much of their lives are intertwined

with the government that without all these services they would be in deep trouble. I live in a very teabagger populated area and feel sorry for their "follow the pied piper attitude". When I start to talk about real live issues like how their kid is getting their health care (Oregon Health care plan is government)and their medicare benefits, schools, police and safety etc. They just give you this blank stare (like what are you talking about?). But then start repeating all the things they have heard form the pastor of their church: "our local hospital will close down if health care reform passes, you will lose your freedom with your guns, you will lose all freedoms if there is any government takeover of our lives...It is sad. My mom is even this way and I thought she was intelligent until she started repeating all this stuff that she gets on the internet. Can they get koolaide from the internet? She doesn't leave her house because of the fears that have been created by this crap...especially since we have a black president. My mom is stating homophobic and racist comments to me on the phone and i didn't even know she had those thoughts. What is our country being transformed into? Why are we going backwards? (got off topic a bit!)

want the government out of THEIR lives and don't particuliarly care about you or me and what we need or want. It is limited, self-important dribble that comes from these gatherings. I do understand their frustrations with ineffective bureaucracy, but they are seriously misdirecting their anger and attitude. The tea party gang comes from years of dumbing down education, class and racial discrimination and non-participation in real civics. We don't accomplish anything by slamming them without realizing the bases for their irrational behaviors.

This group of naysayers somehow need to have an epiphany about the interconnectivity of their lives, my life, government programs and the state of all concerned.

They are being led by those who are wealthy and can pay for their own services. But they can't see this. They're being led by the Americans for Prosperity who are up there in their suits and ties grandstanding them into thinking that government is bad....! There does have to be a balance within government but all i have seen over the last 15 years is cuts, cuts and cuts in education and social services and health care. There is no more fat but these people are still saying "cut the fat".

21. Try being just a touch open minded, and you may get it.

There are people that do not believe in strong, all powerful, federal government. The health care debate is a great example. I was reading the Huffington post the other day and saw that one of the posters was claiming Brown to be a hypocrite because he supported the states health care reform, but not the federal version. This is not hypocritical. Many of us out there believe that the states should be running their own show. A state should be able to set up and run their own programs. Imagine 50 different states all trying out different kinds of health care reform, one of them is bound to find something that works, and what works for one state may not work for another. The people will be able to study and review what plan actually works the best and can vote to bring that kind of reform to their own state. That can't happen if the federal government institutes its own plan. There will be no innovation, it will be a one size fits all solution. Those types of solutions rarely work.

I believe the same of legalized marijuana and same sex marriage. Let the states decide what is best. I believe this kind of government reform will start to push the power back down to the people, instead of the fat cats in washington. As we can see from the present leaders in congress, they are all corrupt and need the power ripped from their greedy power grubbing mits. It is time to get rid of the federal bureaucracy that is bankrupting America. I do not believe the current Dems or Repubs are capable of doing that. The first step however, is to stop the growth of the fed. Specifically by stopping the federal takeover of health care.
