High Voter Turnout Expected (in MA Senate race)
Beware the source, but still...high turnout is good news for Coakley.

High voter turnout expected
By Jessica Fargen
The Boston Herald

Turnout could hit as high as 70 percent Tuesday in the high-stakes U.S. Senate battle between Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley and GOP state Sen. Scott Brown, according to some local election officials.

Absentee ballot requests have increased - on par with levels ordinarily seen in a presidential election - some town clerks say. And town and city halls were buzzing last week with people voting and asking questions about registration in advance of the election to fill the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s seat, said Theodora Eaton, president of the state’s city and town clerk’s association.

“I wasn’t anticipating the interest that has developed,” said Needham town clerk Eaton, who processed 1,000 absentee ballots and expects up to 70 percent turnout.

Reports I've heard the absentie votes are going heavily to Brown. I do not hate dems just corrupt, stupid, lazy dems like Coakley.

16. 'corrupt, stupid, lazy' .....that describes Brown, not Coakley.
Your antiCoakley crusade continues...and you have YET to find anything wrong with Palin In a Man Suit.

Here's the TRUTH you want ignored: Brown is an empty suit who got where he is by his looks, while Coakley had to WORK to achieve her position.

Scott PIMS Brown - Palin In a Man Suit.

19. You NEVER posted for a primary opponent. You're only antiCoakley NOW. You post positively for GOPs
like Gov Perry, and your replies on global warming threads are exactly what RWers say when confronted with warming stats.

Can't find ONE post made by you against Brown. Guess your HOUSTON, TEXAS sensibility makes you an expert only on posting against Dems and their issues.

22. Yes...Coakley is NOT corrupt. You can't explain your claim she is corrupt.
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 03:10 PM by blm
The fact she is not a great or natural campaigner doesn't make her lazy or stupid, either.

And newsflash: Your two years of snow in Houston is BECAUSE of global warming and is NOT proof that global warming doesn't exist.

different than the replies we get from RW deniers.

29. You don't know enough about prosecutors' offices to make that call and smear her as corrupt.
I didn't see you up in arms over Huckabee's pardon or over any of the REAL corruption shown by Gov Perry in recent Texas cases.

And thanks for the 'so-call global warming' phrase....though, in my view, you've already shown your true colors many times by now.

7. Monday's MANY gatherings for MLK memorials will drive turnout for Tuesday, too. Those pushing
the idea of a Brown win here at DU are probably looking to cover for any election machine theft of the votes. If Diebold's optic scanners will, indeed, be utilized, then Dems in Mass need to demand a handcount.

9. The dem base is in gear now
Something we do have going for us is that we've got the ground troops, the machine. Once dems kick into high drive and take this election seriously, we should win this.

31. I think a high turnout is bad for Coakley
usually- like in 2008, you have a high turnout when people are pissed and want change. Coakley, in MA, is not change. I've been eating Tums all weekend. I have a bad feeling about all this.

32. Statistically, anything higher than 62% should be a coakley win.
If it goes as high as 70%, it could be a Coakley blowout.

35. The GOP has tried a "hard sell" in Mass, that will be their undoing.

The voters can tell when they are being conned. The Grand Obstructionist Party has thrown a lot of money in to this campaign and they are about to lose their collective asses. I hope they go bankrupt. They were on the verge of dissolution, I hope this will finish them off.

36. If Democrats do to Boston what they do to Philadelphia - democrats can't lose
I've worked enough campaigns in Pennsylvania to know that if Philadelphia has high voter turn out, the rest of the state cannot over come the lead the democrats will win. Philly is alot like Boston - sure there are are pockets of hardcore republicans in both cities but they are overwhelming blue cities.

In 2002, Ed Rendell was the clear underdog to Pennsylvania favorite son Bob Casey Jr. In May of 2002, during the primaries - Ed Rendell swamped the city of Philly & surrounding counties in a way that brought in presidential election day numbers. Casey was doomed. That has been the technique I've seen in every election I've worked in Philly since then.

I'm hoping that they do the same thing with Boston and their surrounding metro counties along with the other urban areas. If we get those numbers out in high numbers, the republicans don't stand a chance.

37. Why I hope for a Coakley LANDSLIDE
If voter turnout is really 70%, it should be a landslide for Coakley.

If that happens, the teabaggers will be all ACORN all the time. They will claim ACORN stole the election and it will demoralize them.
