Just found the link. Apparently the story is from this morning. Sorry if already posted.

They were Dominican Republic citizens who went over to Haiti to hand out food, without security or support.

1. I heard it on MSNBC this AM but haven't seen it posted
sounds like the injuries were serious but both expected to survive. They were relatively independent aid workers without any security. Lucky they were helped and will live.

3. One of my first thoughts as well.
I can't condemn reporters and aid workers for not taking more risk as I sit here in comfort

4. No kidding
Anybody who's ever been stuck in any sort of mess knows that people tend to panic when help arrives that there won't be enough for everybody. Security is essential because dead rescue workers can help no one.

5. Dominicans & Haitians have a long history
No other nationality of aide workers have been attacked. This was a horrible incident that should not be used to create fear of Haitian people.

Oh yeah, and I was the unrecommend. Please just stop with the fear.

7. Yes, yes they do
but REGULAR teams, even DR teams, not freelances, have had security with them at all times.

10. True
NNU is assembling volunteer teams of nurses to go in but have made it clear to us they can't get us in until some safety is established. Of course, we're all impatient and just wanting to get there (although I'll, likely, go with a later team) but I think they don't feel having nurses killed or injured is going to help the situation much.

8. Interesting that you unrec a news segment that does not fit your world-view.
There was no editorializing in either the video or my posting of it. Two people were shot while handing out aid. Sorry if that doesn't square with your views.
