Does DU have no choice to feature the Scott Brown google ads?

I don't know much about how google ads work?

Do DU administrators have any say in the content of google ads on their site? And, given that this is a democratic forum, and they maintain it is against policy for any member to work against or support democratic opponents, should they ethically refuse all google ads to adhere to their own policy? It would appear to be consistent their own rules, they would have to find other revenue sources if that is the mission of the board.

2. The google ads show up at random based on the site content.
If you donate they will go away.

Since I lapsed I have seen seriosuly fucked up RW adverts. Including some shit showing Obama making a scowl for "big labor".

6. If we all write about walrus tusks on this page, ads will start reflecting that
walrus tusks are great
walrus tusks are neat
if I were a walrus with a tusk
I'd be a happy tusked walrus

are there any ads about walrus tusks yet?

7. I don't need to be protected from the ads - I am just wondering about the inconsistency

with their stated rules.

The content of advertisement of their site speaks about their viewpoints. It just seems to diminish credibility when Republican ads are what you see as a new user. I am not familiar enough with this site to know if I should be a donor.

It was just an observation.

8. Those ads say jack about DU's viewpoints.
As the the poster who first replied satate if you write about walrus tusks you will get ads about walrus tusks. They may be for, against, or whatever about walrus tusks based on who wants to pay to influence opinons and/or make sales.

9. If that is the case, it seems completely inconsistent with their policies

To have right wing advertisements on their site...

And, whether it is intended or not, it does say something about their site. I am a new member it had me completely confused. I don't understand why a democratic site would allow that type of advertising especially given their stated rules.

It just seems like a complete contradiction. It is a fairly simple point I am making. Do you think that they should accept advertising dollars from sources that promote right wing candidates and agendas?

12. No. That's just how Google Ads work.
That's how they work everywhere from Anime fansites to Joe Shmoe's cookie Blog. If you want to take it as it happens only especially at DU then I guess the failure is on your part.

14. That isn't the point.

They have very specific rules about posting anything that could be construed as advocating against a democratic candidate or working for the opposition.

To have elect Scott Brown ads on the site is a complete contradiction.

I am surprised that given that this site ends up with ads mass promoting Republicans, they accept google ads. And, I am more surprised no one seems to think it a conflict of interest.

I guess I wouldn't think it such a big deal if there own rules didn't restrict people from posting the same type of stuff that is featured on their site in ads. I am not going to keep going in circles, this seems a pretty simple point. Do as I say not as I do is pretty simple stuff.

3. Contact admin using the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of most DU pages
They can't pre-screen Google Ads; but they can ask for specific ones to be removed if they are objectional ones like that.

4. You have a choice. Don't put it on the administrators.
You can contribute to DU and you won't see the ads. This site costs money. If you don't want them getting it from google then contribute.

5. People probably donate just so they don't have to see these types of ads.
I'm glad I donate since it sounds aggravating.

10. You are new here and this gets asked every single week or more often.
Donate, get a star, and you won't see the ads. They're doing Brown no good anyways. Plus, as mentioned, a thread about Brown will bet his ads and a thread about Fords will get Ford ads. Simple concept.

11. I believe that if you click on them
then the Scott Brown campaign will be making a small donation to DU. I don't see how that hurts.

13. Smile as he wastes his money
Click on the links and run up his bill. Spoof some calls to his 800 number. Repubs always spend lavishly, so jack up the price while their meter is running.
