6. Barkley was but changed his mind during the W administration
I'm too lazy to look for a specific cite but read his book "Who's afraid of a Large Black Man", which you should read anyway just because it's such a great title.

I assume you are talking about Charles.

16. Not necessarily true.....
A poll of NBA and NFL players found most of them are Democrats; Among NFL quarterbacks, tho, it was the reverse.

29. Hence the phrase "In general" in my post
There are lots of variables involved.

Quarterback is an elitist position.

Working class folks play in the line.

And the overwhelming majority of NFL QBs are, um, white guys.

44. Maybe because the players
are overwhelmingly African - American but most quarterbacks are not.

But, he probably couldn't afford the trip since he went bankrupt.

11. Both attended Boston College and are about the same age
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Flutie

Flutie is a few years younger than Brown.

The Cosmopolitian article states Brown was 22 in 1982 so that makes his year of birth 1960 and Flutie's is 1962.

This has nothing to do with the college connection, I just think Cosmo's suggested campaign slogans for Brown are pretty funny.

Who Needs Joe Plumber When You Can Have Scott Six-Pack?

Scott Brown: A Name You Can Trust, Abs You Can Believe In

Vote for Brown. He Has One Hell of a Stimulus Package.

39. That crowd is responsible for a lot
of Brown's support. His daughter (American Idol singer) Ayla is a star on the BC basketball team and is a local celebrity. He probably attracts a lot of Boston College - related Catholic support. BC is often a voice of liberal Catholics but there are probably a lot of personal relationships with Brown family and certainly with Flutie.

Screw Them.

27. Flutie was #2 QB for the Chicago Bears
during their Superbowl season back in the eighties. #1 was Jim McMahon who was a bigmouth, always getting hurt. He and Ditka had a screaming-at-each-other type of relationship. When McMahon was hurt and Flutie stepped in, people asked Ditka if he was going to yell at Flutie like he did at McMahon... Ditka said "I would feel like I was yelling at Bambi".

23. If I recall correctly ( always iffy), he was involved with or even pres.of the young republicans
chapter at Boston College...Not a big surprise. Athletes, especially white ones, are often pretty conservative from what I've seen and experienced over the years. The Bill Waltons and Adam Morrisons really are the exception.

36. Lots of athletes grow up to be politicians.
Do we choose which politicians to support based on their athletic prowess? Should be choose which athletes to support based on the political leanings?

How about we act like big boys and girls and make a clear separation of the two?
