For those looking for a job:
Search the US govt job openings by state, agency, etc

http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/

Had a good interview myself this week, should hear back 2nd week of February (Which seems to be when I have gotten most my jobs as companies get their budgets approved and implemented around that time).

Lots of govt jobs showing up, worth a look!

7. Also, FYI
Pa. passed a law for table games and the Meadows Casino and the Rivers Casino are going to hire 700 people to deal cards, they say that it will pay about $40.000. The Meadows is accepting applications on line. Erie isn't going to have poker, just bj and craps, nemacolin will have some tables!

8. I just got a Canadian government job
It seems that the government is the only employer hiring here. And I think the department I'm joining was helped by stimulus money.

I start tomorrow.

11. Federal Government
I also heard that many people are getting ready to retire, so there should be several openings. Especially for mid-senior level people.

13. Most effective way to get a good new job is also the fastest way.

Forget the Resume Lottery.

Send a letter to the hiring authority telling him/her what you can do to help them and their department reach their goals faster.

Compete mainly on the basis of what you can do and less on your prior job history.

You want the decision about contacting you for an interview to be made on the basis of criteria that you can more likely WIN on -
and that will almost always mean your CAPABILITIES, not ancient history (your resume).

Put the emphasis on the FUTURE, not the past.

14. Trouble is that I'm not qualifed or motivated to do anything of importance
so I'm just going to coast the last 8 or 9 years until retirement in what I call my semi-retirement. Meaning I only work as much as I need to in order to pay my bills. So far, it's working quite nicely.

20. Most of these jobs are VERY exacting in their requirements
so it may be next to impossible to secure a job. The federal civil service tends to be very competitive.
