Friend's daughter - 4.0 Deans List - 1st qtr in college!
She's also a really good friend of my sons back in NC.

I'm just a bit overwhelmed right now because three years ago - we didn't know if she was going to live past age 16. She had brain cancer - the operation, radiation, chemo - you name it - she went through it. She lost so much weight - and all of her beautiful hair. Hair she'd been growing to donate to - - - you guessed it, cancer patients. An anonymous donor offered to have her a wig made of her own hair, but she declined. "I'm okay with being bald. Give my hair to someone who needs it!" She wore funky hats and cloches and caps. She had her head painted with flowers and sayings and autographs of friends. . . She always kept such a positive attitude and was more worried about her family and friends being upset than her being sick.

She is such a remarkarble young lady. A 4.0 GPA her first semester in college is pretty great. Hell, her first semester in any school ever!! She grew up "UNschooling" so she'd never been in any school before. I'm just beside myself with joy right now. She fought so hard and has come so far. I think she has an amazing future ahead of her.

YAY LAURA!!! We love you! and we're so proud of you!

7. he's pretty happy for her -
but not really surprised at her grades.

We wait every year for word of her "followup visit" to the doc to see how she's doing. So far, so good.

5. Remarkable is right.
My daughter cut her waist length hair too for cancer victims. 'Locks for Love' I think it was.

8. yeah -
My son did that - Laura was the one who encouraged him to grow his hair out so long (he had BEAUTIFUL hair). He and another friend up here went and got theirs cut together.

11. That is an amazing story.
I wish her a long, happy, and successful life.

I love hearing stories like this, especially at times like this when there is so much tragedy and heartache going on in the world...
