For all the arm chair disaster managers here |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 08:32 PM by nadinbrzezinski
that know better than those who've done it, and apparently have access to the pixie dust that would allow us to move them faster... or for that matter the teleporters.
I am now going to ask you to sit down at your computers, and please write a plan. I mean they can use your "expertise" in the subject to fix whatever imagined problems you are seeing.
So please, write the plan and send it ASAP to the WH for implementation, or better yet, TAKE DIRECT COMMAND of this.
Yes it is frustrating to see this go as "slow" as it is going but...
1.- this is a foreign country, if Haiti said no even ONE foreign rescue worker, let alone soldier, would be an act of war.
2.- It takes time to move things into place, and unless you tell me where those teleporters are.
3.- I know you perhaps do not realize it, but the book they are using is written in blood, the blood of both victims and rescuers...
But that is okay. Since you do know better, I expect YOU to do that service to the country and just send that plan to the President. Oh and to send it oh ASAP.
Sincerely,
A reality based member of DU... who has actually done this for real.

The cough syrup's not working, so I'm trying vodka. Get the germs drunk, and they'll quit messing with you.
But, tomorrow, I could wind up with the Swine Hangover.

15. Hubby got it last week |
|
so almost on schedule as he is getting healthier, I came down with it.
I think the Tami Flu is making life that much less miserable... truly.
Cough no, but my ears feel like they will explode.

25. Got the seasonal back in September |
|
finally managed to get the swine flu past Monday.
So if I were ignorant... I'd say the damn jab gave it to me....
Wait some people believe that. Timing... not enough time for the H1N1 to protect. So it is a pretty good guess this is hinnie flu.
On the plus side I started taking Tami as soon as signs and symptoms showed up.

|
unfortunetly undefended aid stations are easy targets for looters and generally anyone who wants to take stuff, dosent matter what society or where in the world you go theres always someone who is willing to take aid supplies if you dont have security to stop them...

Half this board seems to believe we can make ships magically appear at their destination loaded with supplies at the snap of our fingers and that fleets of C-130s can land in some mythical version of LAX outside Port-au-Prince where thousands of trucks will whisk them through the streets to the people.

Thanks for continuing to return the conversation to reality -- or at least attempting to. Some people still think they know everything because once upon a time they read a book (or saw a movie where relief happened like *snap*).

16. Good points but the exact same things could have been said about Katrina. |
|
People were not hesitant to criticize what was going on there despite the fact that 99% had no practical experience with those matters.

18. Of course except that Katrina was actually a mess |
|
since it was in the US... and there are far many other reasons.
Katrina was a failure at the federal government to move and respond... and it was quite on purpose.
No I did not expect them to be there in 10 minutes either but there were things that happened there that should not...

21. Katrina was a failure of government at every level. |
|
Federal, state, and local. Governor Blanco lost her job because of it and deservedly so. Nagin did not follow his own written emergency plan and order the evacuation buses to leave the yards among many other failings.

22. There is more, when they got the first offers of help |
|
it got really tricky to get those people in.
Why this should actually raise the anger over Katrina... since a lot of what happened should not have happened.

|
I cannot be in the field.
Suffice it to say that the numerous lectures are appreciated by people, perhaps not you, but they are.
They are also meant to do this.
BE PREPARED... and make sure YOU can be ON YOUR OWN and do SELF RESCUE for your local incident.
A small one, they will be there. A large one... be ready to be ON YOUR OWN.

29. I prefer "rants of the frustrated". Would be nice if there wasn't a need for them, wouldn't it? |
|
However, attempting to educate people happens here. You know you don't have to read every thread or comment on every thread? But thanks for kicking it!
