Haiti: The MSM and PIH on the ground -- two different stories
Partners In Health

Dr. Evan Lyon, PIH doctor, arrived in Haiti yesterday to work with the PIH team at University Hospital (HUEH) in Port-au-Prince & transmitted an account of what he saw that challenged the notion that Port-au-Prince is chaotic and unsafe: "beyond the horror, one very striking reality is that things are totally peaceful.... we circulated in PAP...no violence or chaos or anything. just people helping each other."

Go to PIH's Facebook page and read what they're doing. The founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, was just on 60 Minutes.

2. Thanks very much.
MSM and actually a few others seem to take joy in anything not going well, getting a chance to smear the president or the way the US is handling this.

3. American television news is stupid and useless.
I've managed to avoid watching any of it so far, with the exception of five minutes on CNN yesterday, after which I felt compelled to throw something at the TV. They were showing scenes of, as they described it, "horrific chaos in the streets." (not an exact quote, but it was close to that.) It was, ah... a bunch of Haitians meandering about a pile of rubble, looking very tired and ill and not doing much of anything except trying to see if there was anyone left alive.

4. Locaton is important. Petionville could be much more stable than the downtown area. That said,
I would not be surprised at all if our MSM is exaggerating the violence. I won't go into my reason here, I don't want to go negative at this time if I'm wrong. But, I'm watching as much as I can when not working and it's hard when there are gaps.

6. I believe that. The media loves to play up fear and danger.
Presumably for ratings.
