Ohio Search Team's Haiti Flight Canceled -- Again
Ohio Search Team's Haiti Flight Canceled -- Again

DAYTON, Ohio — Another day and another delay.

Ohio Task Force One's departure to Haiti was canceled again Saturday, leaving some to wonder if the team will ever make its way to the earthquake-shattered country.

Two U.S. Air Force C-17s arrived at the base late Saturday morning to transport the task force and its equipment to Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital city. The task force loaded the planes with equipment, but was then told to unload the planes and await further instructions, 10TV News reported.

Task force spokesman Scott Hall said that government officials informed him that Saturday's flight was canceled after it was determined that there were not enough resources to support the team after its arrival in Haiti.

He said the task force would be in a holding pattern until Sunday.

The search and rescue team was deployed earlier this week, but air traffic control problems in Haiti and other issues have prevented it from departing.

1. People coming in must bring their own food/water, not enough resourses there for them
Search and rescue people and media and anyone going into a disaster area MUST bring their own supplies otherwise they will further stress the stressed system and take food/water from those in need. This can be a big problem, I hope they figure out how to get enough suplies in for themselves so they can get going.

2. I've wondered about this, wondered the same thing after the tsunami...
Everybody under the sun was there, from Dan Rather to Diane Sawyer to Soledad O'Brien to Anderson Cooper... But there was nothing there, all washed away, so where did they eat, sleep, use a bathroom? Non-essential people need to stay home. :-(

3. It is understandable...
the entire situation is horrible, but from a logistics standpoint... I guess the people in leadership roles have an unimaginable responsibility of prioritization. They can only land so many planes and only have so many resources that they have to balance it between bringing in more search and rescue teams that would need security with bringing in planes full of medial resources, food and water with security for that... I can't imagine having to make those decisions... such limited options with only one small airport. It is truly heartbreaking to know that there is no way to help everyone.
