I think it was probably not a great idea for Obama to get into the MA race |
|
not because I don't like him or think he is doing a bad job. I think it just points out the desperation of the Coakley campaign that the weekend before the election in a state that Dems should be winning that the president has to come in. Now if she loses the press will say that the election was a referendum on him rather than the fact that Coakley sat on a lead and let Brown define her.
Secondly, while Obama may rally some democrats--a presidential visit like this will also motivate Brown supporters as well.
Keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow Coakley can make it.

19. Obama has been demonized here ad nauseum - everything he has done is wrong, especially HCR |
|
Does the phrase "kill the bill" ring a bell?
It's funny - now that Scott Brown might take over Ted Kennedy's seat and lose the 60 seat Dem majority, these same folk want it to pass before Brown (who will win tomorrow in MA, in part, because he has been so thoroughly demonized by the so-called "left") is seated in the Senate.
People have celebrated every bit of bad economic news like it was Christmas Morning and pounced on every bit of good economic news as if it were the Apocalypse (which it is for the Obama haters - they want the economy & Obama to fail).
They want Obama to fail - period.
Scroll back in DU time and read all about it.

21. of course there is criticism of Obama's performance |
|
that is to be expected. But I would certainly question whether any one who wishes for him to fail is on "our side".
If you can't provide a specific example . . . then lets just let it drop. I am not going in search of a thread to support your wild claim.

"Obama is no better than Bush!"
"Obama is a warmonger!"
"Obama is carpet bombing Afghanistan!"
"Obama is reestablishing hegemony in Central America!"
"Obama will invade Yemen!"
"Obama is carpet bombing Yemen!"
"Obama is a war crimina!l"
"Obama doesn't care about Main Street!"
ad fucking nauseum

4. I can't believe this is happening in Massachusetts |
|
I think Democrats have been underestimating the anger over the HCR bill, especially among Union members. If this happens in Massachusetts it is going to be really ugly this fall. I think this will kill the HCR bill, you are going see several Democrats that see the handwriting on the wall and change their vote.

If he didn't show up, the corporate media would blame him for not supporting his party's candidate. And by showing up, it's "desperation". Either way it's framed negatively. Right now, President Obama is the head of the party thus no matter what happens he is looked at as a cause for positive or negative. If Coakley pulls it out, then it will be due to his appearance.
This game is all Coakley's now...she played not to lose and now is trying to rally after falling behind...taking voters for granted. Brown's supporters and Coakley and Obama detractors smell blood in the water...his appearance yesterday didn't energize them any more than they already are. The problem is to energize the Democrats to turn out. I've read some encouraging reports, but this situation shouldn't have gotten to this point.
I'd take a close look at the DNC...they're the ones who work with the candidates and since Dr. Dean's left, they're not doing so well.

Our President is the most beloved person in the world. He has the ability to change the hearts and minds of the voters. I can guarantee that when Coakley wins we can thank our President for his efforts.

And if Democrats in Mass need to know that so they will go vote, then it was a good thing for him to do.
