1. I was just wanting to post about him |
|
I'm sure he means well. But he keeps talking about air drops - been saying it from the first days. What do I know about doing this stuff? Nada. But common sense tells me that you drop things and you can hurt people or some could strong arm their way to get to the goods to sell on the black market.
His pontificating is getting old. I have more confidence in the head of USAID. He appears to be schooled on what's happening on the ground and doing the best he can to get things accomplished. Honore's arm chair attitude has worn itself thin, imo. At least he's taken his tone down a little bit. I'll give him that.

11. You want to be competing with strong young people for food coming down in the air? |
|
I doubt that even Honore would want to. Sure, Honore knows his stuff and I've had tremendous respect for him in the past. But he's been grinching from early on.
It surprised me because he should know how badly this quake has made conditions. Of all people he ought to know with Haiti having virtually no government services even available. It's all got to come from outside.
Honore isn't helping by giving the impression that it all can be done so much better when he doesn't have any of the responsibility. So, no, I have less confidence in his opinion right now.

13. I got it why he took so long to act |
|
during Katrina.
But at this point he is also violating the honor code of the Army he once served in. Some of the things he's said are just outright lies.
But they play into the meme that the Military can't do a thing...right... that is so damn prevalent here.
Some of the people howling... if and when they are in a disaster will be HAPPY to see those uniforms...

18. I'm happy that the civilian agencies and the military are working together |
|
The bottom line is that no matter how much Honore pontificates or how people use that to form an undeserved attitude about the military, all the agencies will work together to do the best they can in Haiti.
I know there will be mistakes made and things that will look questionable just as there will be corruption or glory grabbing and on and on. But there are many, both civilian and military, making a sincere effort. I've concluded that it's about the best we can expect. I'm taking some of what I see in the news with a grain of salt and I'm also cutting all agencies some slack.
Thanks for your thoughts, nadin.

2. Your airdrop schtick is getting kinda stupid now. You might drop it. |
|
Who the hell cares about jargon debates?
Honore is not someone to be contemptuous of. He has reason to care about this, to know about it, and he's uber-qualified to be stating any opinion he has about it.

in fact I constantly snipe at her on other threads. I honestly can't stand her most of the time.
But in this case she has experiential expertise and training while you have nothing but a loudly-repeated opinion based on nothing.
I'll take her "airdrop schtick" over your ignorant second-guessing any day.

29. Lame. And I'm "loud"? That's a laugh. |
|
The "airdrop schtick" is the stupid argument that went on here that MREs couldn't have been dropped right away by choppers because the jargon term "air drop" refers to dropping it by C-130s. Or some such nonsense. Which was definitely NOT the point. Choppers DO bring things in by air. DUH.
That was idiotic. And still, this expert is grinding that axe.
And loud? I'm hardly ever here... unlike this constantly everywhere bunch of magpies.

5. I appreciate his expertise, but he really is getting a bit overbearing at this point |
|
He's starting to sound like he is running for office. I understand his pushing for a second airfield - which is being set up - yet he somehow keeps forgetting to mention that they are doing this. He keeps trying to drive a wedge between governmental agencies (USAID) and the military, just like a GOP politician would do. The Airdrop issue is complex and it sounds great on the surface, but there's a lot more to it than just dropping some stuff out of a helicopter or plane and hoping it all works out.

12. CNN is full of shit, and is wanting to portray this as the clusterfuck that was katrina..... |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 01:52 PM by FrenchieCat
Honore fits the bill, and so they continue to have him on. As for Honore, he forgets that when he went in to Katrina, he had 200 military folks at his side and went in 5 days after the fact. Listening to him talk, you'd think that Katrina had been a success.
The news is made-up.... and those who want to bend over and buy it, should know that they are on their knees spread eagle without my company.

and actually believes that he was just that.... when in essense, he was just doing his job.
I never have confused doing an adequate job as meaning one his a hero. But then, I'm not that stupid, so that may be why.

|
I did my job when I did my job. But that was MY JOB.
SO I know what you mean.
As one guy put it, the real heroes will even try to refuse the medals, while the wanna bes will go get them and claim them.
Well in war the real heroes are buried, and in things like this people do all they can NOT to become casualties while doing their job.
What saddens me is that people are lapping this not realizing what Honore is doing.

He knows shit about what's going on in Haiti. I've been watching several different channels and neither CNN nor Honore know what's going on - most countries' media are following their own emergency crews.

20. MSNBC has done a better job of explaining the process |
|
I should call one of these stations and go, look I did this shit for real, want some analysis of the PROCESS, as in THEORY. I have no way to know exactly what is going on the ground. And if I were there, I would have a very small picture, that is what is in front of my nose... which is what CNN is showing.

And that command is called the President of the United States. I think Honore either wants to run for something, or get a job at CNN. Must not be happy at the insurance company currently paying him.
