President Clinton didn't even win the election with a plurality of votes. He started out as a lame duck. Health care reform? He didn't have a chance after seeing what kind of money will get spent on opposing it.

1. 'lame duck' - That does not mean what you think it means...
Lame Duck is the final term of a term-limited public official. In newsspeak, it has come to mean the last 2 years of an outgoing public official.

I am not sure if there is the right adjective for what you are trying to describe. You could say he was without mandate...

7. You didn't come off sounding like a word nazi at all. That never crossed my mind
I just used an incorrect term and you suggested a better one. Shit, I appreciate stuff like that.

Seriously, thank you again.

:hi:

3. In the 90s I went a few years without insurance because I was sure that the Clintons would deliver

I had such hope and confidence in them.

Now as a 40 something paying $400/month for a family of three, I'm just hoping not to get screwed in the reform.

They weren't involved or invested in writing the bill, so blew if off when the going got tough.

Most importantly, Big Pharma aimed heavy guns at the bill (Harry and Louise) Shielding them from any action THIS YEAR was very prudent, although very unpopular on DU. They would have had zero chance if Insurance and Pharma had combined opposition.
