Does Scott Brown Know Something We'd Be Happy About?

In the last 36 hours, for a guy who supposedly has all the momentum going his way, the Scott Brown campaign seems to be doing some things you never see a frontrunner who is winning going away do. Entries here and in other blogs may be telling a different story than the one Da Media is promoting -- that Brown is ahead and poised to win everything tomorrow.

<snip>

Does a campaign with everything going for it do the following with less than 48 hours to go before an election:

-- RedState.com asking Brown supporters to jam Coakley phone banks.
-- Reports of Brown supporters openly burning Coakley signs.
-- Brown allowing himself a smirk at a suggestion at a rally that Coakley should be raped by a curling iron.
-- Hecklers disrupting Obama's speech at a Coakley rally.
-- Whining openly and loudly at crowd estimates at the competing rallies.
-- And most recently, a report from Talking Points Memo the teabaggers are begging Joe Kennedy ("I") to drop out of the race on the eve of the election.

If you're pulling away you don't do any of this stuff on the eve of the election -- you instead work to get your vote out and ignore the other side. You do this dirty trick stuff because you think the election is going to be razor-thin - or that you are desperate to suppress the vote of the other side because you fear that turnout will go against you. That's the Rove playbook to a tee -- remember, he NEVER won an election going away, but instead had to rely on dirty tricks to eke out victories.

1. Perhaps. Or perhaps it reflects the incipient fascist tendencies of the teabagger movement
For people like that, simply winning isn't enough. They will consider it an injustice if they don't ANNIHILATE their opponents. They believe that, in a truly fair world, they would win by fifty percentage points EVERYWHERE.

Plus, they don't just want to annihilate...they want to create a climate of fear.

2. The things he is doing are SOP for the modern Republican party...
He is likely smart enough to know that he can not control the Teabaggers, and trying to would shut off their support of his campaign. Jamming phone banks is an accepted Republican strategy aimed at keeping voters away from the polls. Most likley he would happily wield the curling iron while posing nude for a centerfold in Republican Family Values Magazine. Hecklers were likly of the teabag variety that can not be controled, only tolerated.
Whinning about reported crowed numbers is what Republicans do best.

No, these are just SOP. But I still think that Coakley is likely to win it.

Agreed.
ES&S won't help him either, since he's campaigned for previous offices as "pro-choice", and they are anti-choice fanatics.
