My theory. What do you think about this? (re current politics, including HCR, MA election, etc) |
|
The seeds for what we are seeing were likely planted much earlier (Kennedy assassination? Nixon/Watergate? Reagan? Clinton "blowback" (ouch..sorry, couldn't resist) - then the real kicker, the 8 Bush years. I am really coming to realize that Obama truly finds himself in a largely, hostile, no win situation. If in fact Brown beats Coakley, if in fact HCR is something that becomes an increasingly unpopular albatross, it says more about the ability of much of the public to think, evaluate, behave in a civil manner, and think of America as an organism where large groups of people can't get left behind. I think that this country is in a very bad place - I think we have a bought media that has no regard for the truth, we have set up the corporations to rule the roost and direct the politics, we have politicians that have no regard at all for the public - with a few exceptions, of course. And I include Obama in the group that is enlightened, and caring. But the infrastructure to drive what is needed no longer exists.
Maybe I am just in one of those pessimistic places, but I am not seeing much to persuade me otherwise - to persuade me that it is going to have to get a lot worse before it can truly get better. What would be tragic is if someone as talented and worthy as Obama would be saddled with a failed tenure as president because the lunatics got hold of the asylum. And that is, I am afraid, of where we are heading.

2. 60 votes in the Senate, 70+ majority in the House, and Obama has a no-win situation. Wow. |

That the first thing that happens to New people in Congress is that they are offered a bribe(by the powers that be) of some sort. For those that fail to accept the bribe are presented with a compromising situation that is filmed and later shown to then to get them in line. For the few that do neither they are marginalized and ridiculed until they can wield no real power (think Kucinich)
