I can write all night about losing my boys, having a daughter who does not know me, and about my little Hannah and her mom I loved so much and lost.
I could tell you all about my life and pain.
But I am a really lucky man this night.
Somewhere in Haiti a dad is digging through rubble in hopes of finding his little girl. A mom is crying over the loss of a son.
It puts it all into perspective. It could be so much worse.
That is not to say there are not issues here I will pass by, but damn I could have it so much worse than I do now.
I am a lucky man. I am not running around trying to pull my child out of some rubble, I am not wandering the streets hoping to find a bottle of water.
Tonight, I feel like a lucky man. Lucky to have friends I can rant to, lucky to have the life I do.
Lucky to be able to actually post here and tell others how I feel.

2. K&R. Very well stated... I feel the same way... |
|
I've got a whole lot of things that I'm worried about, but this kind of horrific tragedy puts it all in perspective... :pals:

4. I felt the same way after the tsunami. |
|
I'd lost my father two months prior. I was in a very very bad mental space. The tsunami kicked me in the head and made me realize just how lucky I was to have a family who cared about me and were still alive, even if I had lost the man who was my father and best friend.
Thanks for sharing.

amputation or death for her daughter while the little girl was crying and frightened. How could I possibly complain about anything in my life?
Thank you. You are so right.

9. The suffering of Haiti does not make your pain less real but it does offer perspective |
|
You have the right to feel your pain, as do we all, but hopefully more of us will appreciate the lives we have, as you do.
Well done, SS. We should all do so well.

10. Very good post, Straight Story! |
|
I mentioned something similar to my husband last night. There we were in our warm apartment while it was snowing outside, eating good food, enjoying each other's company. And then on the news we saw all of this destruction, the desperate need of those who have lost everything, who often don't even know if their loved ones are still alive. And this puts our own problems, whatever they may be, into perspective.

We both stopped, hugged and acknowledged how truly fortunate we are.
Thank you for the additional reminder. I hope your adorable daughter is well.

It rained buckets here today and I feel on my remote into a pile of ranch mud trying to get a barn door to stay closed in the wind.
But the power is on, there was water to bathe in and there's two Labs here that ate today because we are lucky mofos.
