One of the key things in politics is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit, pulling good outcomes out of bad situations.
If Martha Coakley goes down to defeat today (which, I hope, she doesn't), then the whole "60 votes" illusion goes out the window.
If we no longer have 60 votes, then there is no point in keeping Joe Lieberman in the caucus.
There would be no palpable difference between the Republicans having 41 seats and having 42 seats, so there would be no pressure to not expel Lieberman the next time he pulls his crap.

Other than the voters of Mass, Holy Joe has about the most to lose if Coakley doesn't win. Might not be too fun to be Joe if that comes to pass...
