Why do our party's leaders demand loyalty from us, yet show none TO us?
Why do they think they're entitled to do that?

And why does anyone here defend them on that?

Isn't it time for our leaders to admit that Democratic progressives shouldn't be treated like that anymore? And shouldn't ever have been treated like that in the past?

It's mostly a left-of-center party. Therefore, it should be fighting for mostly a left-of-center program. How hard is that to understand?

4. $$$$$$$
They need their corporate donors.

At this point they would have to do a lot to show remorse. Like firing of staff and cabinet members for a start. Pretty words won't mean much, there has been too much trust lost.

6. Hubris. They are drunk with power, & can't wait to tell off the ones who demand the most from them.
If it were high school, they'd be the eggheads who couldn't wait to join forces with the jocks to start shitting on the eggheads they left behind.

Now, as to why anyone defends them -- that's a poser.

9. Because that's who politicians are.
There are a few really good ones, but most are driven by their ego. Loyalty always flows to them, not from them. You are always expendable, whether you're a voter, or a supporter, or an employee.

10. Who's demanding loyalty?
I've been a registered Democrat since turned 21 in 1971 (I'm so old you still had to be 21 to vote). Never do I recall being asked, much less coerced, into being loyal. I never had to take a loyalty oath. No politician ever threatened me when I wrote them a letter or called their office to complain about a vote.

This is a ridiculous strawman rant. The Democratic Party does not demand loyalty of its constituents.

13. That's what al the "it's the progressives' faulf if we end up with President Palin" rhetoric is.
It's demanding that progressives give the party unquestioning support and then giving them nothing in response to that support(because only the mythical "independents", that is the independents we've now LOST forever, matter).

16. No, you said "our party's leaders"--not random posters on an Internet board
You can't take back the meaning of the OP. No party leaders have either demanded your loyalty nor suggested that it will be your fault if we end up with a President Palin. (puh, puh, puh ... I didn't even say those words).

18. Those posters reflect the mindset of the party establishment
Some of them are probably paid by that establishment to "post the line" on forums like this and to spread it at Democratic gatherings.

And it all goes back to Rahm's arrogant "there IS no base" meme.

21. Oy vey.
When you come up with a theory like that ... there's no way to talk you down from it. Like "creationism" or something--it's a belief, not something that can be rationally discussed by applying the facts.

So I bow out of this discussion ... we live on different planets. But let me tell you this: mine is just as liberal and progressive as yours is. Just a little less delusional.

And that does not boil down to the same thing, since as we boast so fucking often we do not march in lockstep
