FACEBOOK USERS: Help Shut Down this Hate Group on FB
The group is called "Fuck the Haiti Earthquake" and
it is a racist, hateful group. If they had even tasteful
nudity, Facebook would have yanked it within a couple of days.
The photos they are posting there are racist. The message is
racist. The groups is run by racist ignoramuses who actually
think they are funny.

This goes beyond free speech.

If you are a Facebook user, you can report the group AND
report individual photos. The link for reporting the group is
in the lower left corner of the group's page. The photos have
a link below them on the lower right.

Please help get this group yanked from Facebook.

Thanks

leapinggnome.

12. I believe in free speech, even for racists.
If you don't believe in freedom of speech for those who say things you disagree with, you don't believe in it at all. Besides, I think they should have a forum, just so that the rest of us can point to it and say "see, these people really do exist."

37. WTF?!
"I'll kill you if you do."

Here's a debating tip. When you misstate your opponent's position, subtlety is your friend.

Yes, you have a right to spew any bigoted shit that occurs to you, but you don't have free rein to post it on a privately-owned website.

The Constitution is about placing limits on government. The Constitution doesn't "give" anyone rights; we have them already. So spew random shit. Nobody will care until you come into a private home or business or website.

40. All of which has to do with 'Facebook', how, exactly?
There seems to be a lot of outrage about what Facebook is 'allowing' at the same time defending their right to allow it. There's a disconnect, it seems. Either they have the freedom to permit what you don't like or they do not...which is it?

43. That is NOT the question. Don't be obtuse.
Facebook can permit or prohibit whatever they want. Their rules ALREADY prohibit what the OP is referencing, hence the thread.

The Constitution does not say anything about what private entities can decide about postings on their own website, and that's how it should be!

What a boneheaded way to go after someone who doesn't believe as you do. And you should be quite aware that the first amendment does NOT mean that people can say whatever they want. I'm sure you're aware of the yelling "fire" in a crowded theater example?

20. FB is a privately owned company
and has rules against such groups... it would be like someone coming into your house and spewing racist remarks. Would you let them stay in your home to protect their "freedom of speech" or would you tell them to leave?

These people can spew their racist BS all they want on sites like Freerepublic and Stormfront.. FB is not the site for this.

Congress is not passing a law restricting speech here.

Facebook is a private organization with its own rules which ban this type of thing. The First Amendment doesn't apply to this case.

does not state that everyone has a right to say what they want to. What it says is that the government cannot restrict speech. The government is not the issue.

You obviously have no idea of the real world implementation.

They have a right to say whatever they want...private groups have a right not to give you a forum. No one is stopping them from being stupid assholes...they just cannot be stupid assholes there if the owners of the site do not want them.

Thanks for stopping by....

Just a head's up-- might I suggest you re-read (or read?) excerpts re: "harm principle" and the "offense principle", in addition to a privately held company's rights to place restrictions on certain types of speech within the confines of that companies propriety?

If Facebook does indeed choose to deny this particular group a forum on their property, they may still engage in the form of speech they are currently practices-- simply not there. Or do you believe that you yourself have no right to limit what may or may not be said in your own premises?

Every right has concomitant restrictions and regulations placed on them, you see-- this ain't the mythological libertarian society a lot of people fantasize about you see (thank God).

66. What does any of this have to do with free speech?
Facebook is a private company, not a wing of the government. If they don't like what someone says on their site they (just like DemocraticUnderground) can stop it -- and they have every right to. Now, if someone posted racist drivel on Facebook, and then the government came to take them away to Guantanamo or something, I'd say you have a point. But as it stands, I don't think you quite 'get' what free speech means. The First Amendment guarantees that the government will not interfere with your right to free speech. It doesn't mean that you cannot suffer consequences for your free speech. If you call your boss an asshole, he'll fire you. If you post hate speech on Facebook, they can shut you down.

They can't see past their own pain and suffering to care about anyone else, because of mental illness and/or life's negative conditioning. It's normal for humans to show some degree of compassion for those that suffer right in front of us.
