A sharp stick in your eye, produces instant change..blindess..but it IS change..and it was FAST.
People who wanted change in November, and expected it overnight, were naive.
A "roadmap" to change would have been nice to have, but of course a smart person with plenty of foes, should never really tip their hand that much or that often.
That roadmap would surely have reminded people that "Rome truly was not built in a day", and of course when it fell, it was not really rebuilt to its former glory, but what it is today, took a couple of thousand years to achieve.
Eight long years of W, preceded by 8 years of Clinton-under-the-gun-by relentless republicans, and 12 years before him Reagan/Bush, set in motion, so many nasty consequences that have only recently come to fruition.
You do not run out to pick oranges, the morning after you plant that seedling...
Republicans are very good at setting delayed-fuse economic bombs, and unfortunately it's always a democrat who has to come along and clean up the mess.
Wishing for a fast clean up is just that ..a wish.
Right after a car wreck, anyone would say "Gee I wish my car would hurry up and get repaired....but when the shop calls & says " Your share is going to be $2200.00" that wish becomes very unpleasant to contemplate..especially when you have $48 in the bank and no more credit cards.
Optimism has a shelf life, pessimism has no expiration date.

.. this "only 1 year" stuff is lame. In that year, every major thing Obama has done is WRONG and people are sick of it. If we're going to have more Bush, why not just elect a god damned Republican and get it over with.

I think we may have inadvertently done that. Republican lite that is.

6. This can't be said enough! |

I didn't expect miracles, but neither did I expect an administration full of DLCers and neoliberals and Wall Street toadies.
I know full well that real change has to start from the ground up -- I just didn't expect that the top would be so anathema to the people on the ground.

It is infuriating that the people give so much time to the right to destroy the country and expect the Democrats to clean in up instantaneously. A successful Obama after 8 years would have put this nation on the right track, though some of the damage can never be repaired. That is the way the world is.

3. They have that benefit because the media helps them |
|
every hour of every day
and their pols get traction twice.. by obstructing change and then complaining that A or B or C was "ineffective" and got nothing done :grr:

5. A year is not overnight. |
|
Is the Treasury still handing out billions to Goldman Sachs? Is the Fed still guaranteeing billions? It has been a year, Iraq is still on going, Afghanistan is escalating. Maybe by 2016 something good will happen and then again maybe not..

9. I think that we've peeled off dependable voting groups one by one -- first, LGBT... |
|
then, unions (employee free choice). then, antiwar groups with the Afghanistan surge. most recently, the rank and file who voted on the healthcare issue -- many of whom are seniors.
one by one, the biggest brains in the room have alienated their best allies. we're all scratching our heads.

12. Dems have always been spread pretty thin, because we are the party that's FOR things |

Republicans have it pretty easy because they are defined by what they are AGAINST.. About the only things they are in favor of, are war & tax cuts..
Trying to make things better for MANY people, and all from the same bit of money, is hard..and takes compromise.. stamping your foot and hollering "NO"! is a whole lot easier
