One would be suprised at the closeted bigotry that exists. Sometimes it is more overt by the "whiteflight ethnics" (i.e Irish/Italians) and it shows when they vote. Just as there are pockets (of increasing size these days due to demographic shifts) of liberalism in the "red" areas, there are sizable, but shrinking pockets of reactionaries in the "blue areas".
