Bayh: Dems Are In Denial About Massachusetts Senate Race
http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/01/bayh-dems-are-in-denial-about-massachusetts-senate-race.php?ref=fpa

Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) told ABC News that the Democratic Party cannot ignore the lessons of the Massachusetts special Senate election unless it wants to be lead to "even further catastrophe."

The race to fill the late Ted Kennedy's Senate seat has become hotly contested in recent weeks, even though the Democratic candidate, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, enjoyed double digit polling leads up until the middle of December. Republican candidate Scott Brown has called the race a referendum on health care reform and has promised to be the 41st vote to block cloture on the landmark legislation if he's voted into office.

The lesson, according to Bayh, is that the Democrats have pushed their agenda too far to the left and have, in the process alienated independent voters.

"It's why moderates and independents even in a state as Democratic as Massachusetts just aren't buying our message," Bayh told ABC. "They just don't believe the answers we are currently proposing are solving their problems."

(end snip)

Asswipe. Obama hasn't pushed too far left. Methinks the DLC and its parent Chamber of Commerce have some new strange bedfellows.

17. There are no LOCAL issues on the ballot over 90% of the ballots have only one
thing to vote for.

6. Evan, the DLC half-wit, is getting exactly what he wants with this election
If Coakley loses, he and his ilk will be laughing behind closed doors, giving high-fives, and smoking fine cigars. This is what they want so they can play it as some sort of mythical "LEFTIST MESSAGES ARE KILLING THIS COUNTRY!" and the media will fall right in line with it.

Just more realignment of the political spectrum by the DLC'ers, who are still firmly entrenched and in control of our party. Pretty soon, what passes as a Republican today will be tomorrows leftist-Democrat.

23. Susan is not a lobbyist
She doesn't even have to work that hard for the money to come rollin' in. She is a board member at Wellpoint and I think some other health related company. No, Susan gets paid a great deal of money to attend a few board meetings for a few hours and then it is off to the finest French restuarant in whatever city the meeting is held. After a leisurely three hour lunch, Susan is whisked back to her five-star suite for a massage, seaweed wrap and a nap.

for the express purpose of moving the Democratic party ever rightward....don't we?

15. Standard DLC script: Blame everything on the "left"
Even when you have a corporate funded DLC candidate running for a seat held by a Liberal (and before that, his brother) for over 50 years, and the candidate is defending Mitt Romney corporatist "solutions", somehow they blame the ACTUAL Democrats.

Fuck you Evan. Fuck you Joe. Fuck you Rahm. Fuck you Bruce Reed (and your son Chad too). Fuck the DLC and their lame excuses. Regardless of what happens tonight, you sons (and daughters) of bitches are the ones destroying the Democratic party. :grr:

19. Bingo - we have a winner
Everyone who isn't DLC is now considered "LEFTIST!" and diagnosed as the problem with our party. Get ready, if this goes down tonight like it's looking, that's all we are going to hear from here until November.

16. What happened in the middle of December?
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 07:47 PM by Uncle Joe
Was that about the time the public option was dropped, that mandates to bail out the corporate villain for profit "health" insurance industry without a public option would be a reality or that health care benefits would be taxed; which was something Candidate Obama said McCain would do.

It seems to me, those were all right wing moves; which will give the Republicans put tents in their pants for years to come.

I believe Bayh totally missed the boat on this.

Thanks for the thread, deminks.
