It's time to go Progressive. From the ground-up. That's where it all must start.
At the local council level, aldermen, Mayors, State Reps/Senators, Attorneys General, Governors, U.S. Reps, Senators, then the White House.

Show this country that a progressive policy is what will fix this country and give it back to the people from the corporations.

Until that happens (and we'd probably need the help of ALL elections - every race in every district - to be publicly funded), then we'll end up with GOP/DLC "leadership" and the continued whoring of America to its corporate masters.

1. The main problem is politicians SAY one thing and DO another!
That's why people are so disinterested about voting.

4. Because they sell a front to get elected and then go back to their campaign donor masters
Think people like Franken, Grayson, the late Wellstone, et al would turn face on their constituents?

17. Sure, there are exceptions that prove the rule
They're often found lying dead in remote hillsides surrounded by plane wreckage or lying, flattened, on the concourse of a hotel somewhere.

39. No wonder "they" had to kill Wellstone.
"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

"When given the choice between a Republican, and a Democrat who acts like a Republican, the voters will choose the Republican every time." ---Harry Truman

28. Yeah. It's a good think only politicians do that.
Normal, non-politicians never say one thing and do another.

Gone to local offices to pick up yard signs for people.

Made people aware of their voting location.

I've even considered running for a local office before but some events on the personal side precluded that.

22. i was thinking the same ...
Our federal government has let us down on so many levels. Both parties have messed things up royally.

You are so right about publicly-financed campaigns. It must be conducted by the candidate, no one else. The special interests and PACs need to STFU!

But I also have to question the intelligence of some voters. Gullible. Easily manipulated. Selfish. Incapable of independent critical thought. Lack of understanding of the issues. These people make me so angry. I don't understand why they're that way. I just don't get it, and it's incredibly frustrating.

Sometimes, I think we should form our own social support system; a community network where we look out for each other. It would mean everyone contributing some portion of income to a common pool administered by an honest financial manager. The fund would be the safety net we need to catch us when we fall, and help us get back on our feet. This organization would help their members with job training, job hunting, medical expenses for people who cannot get enough help from the usual sources. Some will get more out of it than others, but as a community, we will be the richer for it. Our government was supposed to provide that safety net. They've failed miserably. Of course, it will only work if there's a critical mass of participants. But damn! I get so angry and discouraged that I just want to go live in a separate social system with other progressives, a system where we support each other, and let those idiot voters who put Republicans in office deal with the crappy government they've given us.

25. I hear you loud and clear. Been talking to a buddy of mine about something like that
It's hard to get started on something like that and reach a size to where it's beneficial and sustainable but it *is* possible.

Trouble is, like anything (our economic system is a grand example as well as the remaining communist states), is that one or a few start to want more than their fair share or to tell others how to use their share and it corrupts the entire process.

33. Republicans have been given a FULL YEAR to seize the populist mantle.
It is way past time.

The fact that they are lying now will mean no more to the voters than their history of lies made then.
