Where is the real left?
Why are the Democrats so centrist?

Why is it possible for the Republicans to drive through legislation with a bare majority while the Democratic party supposedly "cannot" pass health care reform with a still substantial majority, and the support of the majority of Americans?

These are questions I have been dealing with as a newcomer to the Democratic party and political involvement in general.

Any comments or thoughts are appreciated.

1. Because we really only have 45 (soon to be 44) Dems in the Senate.
There are 15 pretend Dems there who need to go.

3. It's a matter of nerve really. UHC would be a boon to the party.
And I mean a FDR-level shift in electorate. Seriously, the map would be blue for fucking decades. They just don't have the balls to do it.

5. I'm from Canada. Our liberals like to balance budgets and have social policy like universal health
care. I find myself to the left of many of the people here. I'm for gun control and public daycare. And sometimes, on some issues I am to the right.

Like the HCR. I wanted the present bill passed more than anything. Anything that would help Americans get better health care is very important. Some of my left wanted universal health care or nothing. Or the public option or nothing. To me covering another 30 million people is not nothing. It would have made a HUGE difference to many, many Americans.

So I find myself all over the spectrum on the left.
