Can't blame this on "progressives" staying home... record turnout across all demographics |
|
...for a special election.
Going to be close to 65% turnout when the counting is done.
So... this isn't about anybody "staying home".
This is about 22% of registered Democrats voting for a teabagger. Is that the lesson from progressives? They voted for Brown?
The result will be a markedly rightward shift by Obama and the Democrats in congress for the next 10 months.
The "message" they got was from the "independent center". And so they are going to run there.
So... the 22% of you that voted for Brown to "teach Obama a lesson"... you're going to find out that the lesson he learned isn't the one you wanted him to learn.
Strangely, because you thought he was governing too much to the center - you are going to end up pushing him farther that direction.
Congrats... you got Bill Clinton II.
(which, in 10 months, hopefully won't be as bad as '94 was...)

1. 100% more voters could have swayed any election |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 09:28 PM by stray cat
and if only 50% voted - there are another 50% who stayed home. I guess independents also chose the GOP over dems.

2. You assume that all the 22% of Dems who voted for Brown (which was in a pre-election poll and not |
|
and exit poll) are disgruntled progressives? How do you figure that? Would it not be more reasonable to assume that they are the ol' Reagan Democrats we hear about endlessly? Or centrists tempted to vote for an "outsider"? Some people might have sat out due to disgust at the state of affairs, but I can't see any DUer, for example, voting for Brown (trolls aside).

Or are liberals just morons? What is gained from this? HOW DOES THIS MOVE OBAMA TO THE LEFT?
Seriously. Your name is a complete oxymoron because you don't have a fucking clue. Liberals voted Brown to send Obama a message? What kind of warped logic is that? How can you even type that with a straight face?
lol Jesus Christ. I've never seen a bigger collection of idiots than I've seen tonight. And we wonder why Democrats lose? Because many liberals are fucking DUMB.

9. No... the "left" voted in record numbers too... the lesson Obama got wasn't what you think |
|
The lesson he got is, move to the center.
Congrats. You got exactly the OPPOSITE of what you wanted.. you got a government that will swing MORE to the right.

7. You dont win a race in a liberal state acting like moderate Republicans |
|
That goes for President Obama on down to Coakley.
For most Americans (especially in liberal regions) "Change" wasnt supposed to mean change from a liberal in the campaign to a DLC neo-liberal once in office.

10. Do you actually have any facts to back up that claim... |
|
...(namely, that the 22% of registered Dems who voted for Brown were the disgruntled progressive faction)? Exit polls? Anything?
If you're just axe-grinding, fine. DU was created as a venting zone.

It shows reaching across the aisle is the most effective way to self destruct your mandate. Those assholes were united in their shit and want their Amerikkka back.

He has a mission, and it's not to be popular. It's to get done what he got elected to do.
