The stupid Democrats of Massachusetts, who so fervently feared that Romney would appoint someone if Kerry had won the presidency in 2004, that they stupidly overturned the law about appointments. If they hadn't done that, it wouldn't have come back to bite them, and Deval Patrick could have nominated someone really great until 2012.
