come warm your hands over this flickering bit of comfort:
Joe Lieberman's vote value just sank into the depths. His power as the 60th vote is no more.

2. That had occurred to me, as well.
And now I'm wondering whether Joe might be more inclined to deal.

If they go to reconciliation and 51 votes, they don't have to bribe, plead, kowtow to anyone.

6. Wrong... now we need two of these three for anything - Snowe, Collins, Joe

That trio now controls the legislative agenda of the US Senate.

13. nonsense
We've got a bigger majority than * had. And he got whatever he wanted.

We just need to stick together.

We don't need those three,

7. This must be one of the "silver linings" people talk about
I'll try to draw some comfort from it as I contemplate the upcoming bloodbath in 2010. No. Seriously. Thanks.

11. Oh, excellent, Cali!
I am beginning to feel good about tonight.
What was the point of a 60 vote majority if all the Dem Party could do is tell us what they just couldn't possibly do anyways!

12. Joe was 60? Then we NEVER had 60.
So all we've lost is a calculated delusion.

No more of his smug asshatness in front of cameras rubbing everyone's noses in it. Small comfort,, though.

16. I hadn't thought of that...
but that is a good point.

Now the Dems in the Senate need to grow some balls and kick Lieberman out of the caucus and strip him of his chairmanship. What have they got to lose, now?

20. Rec.
He never really mattered and now the most optimistic among us can't even pretend it's the case anymore.

I want us coming out like street fighters or to at least re-read Machiavelli. Figuratively speaking his head should be cut off in the town square for all to see. His seniority stripped, his tactics denounced and the message sent that we are going to start enforcing party discipline. We've still got a once in a generation majority and unless we start using it we might as well get used to the idea of losing it.
