I predict that a Real Kennedy will run for Teds Seat in 2012.
A year of Scott Brown as the Senator will snap the Massachusetts Democrats back into reality. It appears that such frustration will bring out say Bobby Kennedy or Joe Kennedy to rescue the legacy.

1. Oh yes, let's promote legacy, an inherited office.
How about grooming an actual democrat that will fight for democratic ideals.

3. Thank you
There are several names we need to retire from politics forever.

Your electability shouldn't hinge on your name.

18. Yeah, unlike those DINO Kennedys.
:sarcasm:

My guess is that ten times out of ten, compare a Kennedy to any of the corporate "Democrats" we have in Congress and there won't be any debate as to who comes out looking like the "real democrat."

Sure, Teddy's name helped him get started in politics. But people didn't keep supporting for him for 47 years just because he was part of a political dynasty. He was the real deal.

We can all be rightfully skeptical of dynastic politics while also acknowledging that dynasties and great leaders aren't always mutually exclusive.

19. Name one Kennedy in office in Mass who can step up an represent the people.
Right now.

Name a Kennedy who has earned political chops as an advocate for labor, women, minorities, poor, working class, in Massachusetts who deserves to represent all of them let alone any of them.

21. We don't know who can and cannot lead until they're given the chance.
You missed my point. My point was not to dismiss the future of Kennedys in politics out of hand, just because they're a dynasty. Because based on their track record, they've been some of the best we've ever produced.

I have a theory that the BFEE has soured some Democrats on the Kennedys, even if it's just subconsciously. I feel like people equate the Kennedys with the same type of sickening cronyism and nepotism we get from the Bushes, all the while neglecting the fact that despite their wealth and privilege, the Kennedys have always fought for the people. Like I said, we can always maintain a healthy skepticism of dynasties (much in the same way we can and should always question leaders, no matter who they are), but still acknowledge that occasionally a dynasty will produce a good egg like Teddy and his brothers.

22. And my point is they are not the best if they are not already involved.
Find someone else. Find someone who has already put in the blood, sweat, and tears to be an advocate.

20. I believe that Teddy, Jr.
has moved back to Massachusetts.

He has young kids, but when they are older, I look for him to run. I don't blame him for not wanting to interrupt his family life to take up the mantle.

I don't know about Bobby's kids. How many of them live in Massachusetts, do you know?

You're right. Kennedys know what it means to serve the people instead of corporations.

9. But Brown didn't win a full term--only the remainder of Kennedy's term
that expires in 2012.

Not wise to be snarky and wrong.

24. A real Kennedy ran this time
Joe changed his name. Legally. Paid the fee and everything. He's a real Kennedy.

He may not get invited to any of the reunions, but hey, reunions are over-rated.

Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 10:57 AM by SoCalDem
There is precedent for a widow to "step in", and even for a son to run for "Dad's seat", but after losing the seat to a republican NOW, can you imagine the pressure 2 years from now? Republicans will be grooming CapeCodKen and they will spend whatever it takes to secure a 6 yr gig for him.. A Kennedy young'un who came close, but still lost, would be worse than bad..... and a lot of those young kennedys have some skeletons in their closets.. They may just want to do their charitable work, and live their lives. The ONE Kennedy who could have carried on, died in that plane crash with his wife & sister-in-law.. he had the charisma to win, if he had chosen to run.

The Kennedy era is over.. They had a half-century run. It's time for a new person to step up.
