6. The problem with that is that you often end up lowering the bar so that everyone feels "rich" |

23. People who are truly rich can avoid paying just about any kind of tax |
|
To me that is one of the definitions of wealth. It's a self-sustaining condition in which a person has enough resources to live as he or she wishes without relying on earned income, or on any other particular source that would be available to a middle class person.

taxes. It's not rocket science. We aren't inventing the wheel. Other countries are doing it successfully so all we have to do is study them and the results they get. It's time to do something for the people of the USA with their tax money other than spend it on wars and bailing out banks and other countries.

to about $100 billion, and end the 2 wars.
End the health insurance and banking monopolies, which siphon off hundreds of billions from our incomes and economies.
We have the money, we just chose to spend it killing innocent people in far off lands, and enriching the oligarchy.

22. That is one of the biggest roadblocks IMHO. 2 trillion/year in new taxes |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 01:06 PM by andym
The 2 trillion estimate comes from the estimate of CA nurses study of HR676.
Of course, Americans would end up saving money overall, but who would look at the big picture when bombarded by Republican spin about taxes.

27. I can't believe that anyone could ask this seriously, given that we pay TWICE |
|
--what every other goddam developed country in the world pays! We pay for it by giving our money to Medicare instead of to useless mass-murdering intermediaries, and the government pays the providers.

private insurance would have compete with a government option. Funny they don't want that competition for themselves, but when it comes to competing with Chinese for jobs, well, that's ok.

Medicare won't be around much longer for anyone. Now that progressivism has died, and soon the right-wing fanatics will take over Congress and the White House. They will cut taxes on the wealthy (heck, they'll probably impose a flat tax or a sales tax), jobs will continue to be outsourced at alarming rates, and the nation's economy will be devastated when we start paying off the deficit and health care costs approximate over one-third of the GDP. There simply won't be any money to fund Medicare, Social Security, or Medicaid any longer.
Rugged individualism will rule the day. That, and long lines at community food pantries. Good-bye, America.
