A Little Help Regarding this Email... |
|
I use to work with a couple of women (we were all laid off, our entire department) who are right-wing nuts and we did get along well as long as we didn't get to far into politics. However, I just got this email from one of them and then the other forward the same email to me. I do not believe that President Obama would have said these things and if he did, certainly not in the context as it is presented here.
I hate to go after one of these women, her son-in-law was shot in the face in Iraq and fortunately survived but is still recuperating months later. However, I am tired of the lies from both sides and need to know if anyone has any knowledge of these statements. I tried the Snopes and Truth or Fiction sites but couldn't find anything. I am about 1000% sure this has to be wrong but would love proof.
Thanks...the email is below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS STATEMENT EVER MADE BY A PUBLIC OFFICIAL LET ALONE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. AND THIS GUY IS OUR "COMMANDER IN CHIEF".
HERE IS HIS RESPONSE WHEN HE BACKED OFF FROM HIS DECISION TO REQUIRE THE MILITARY PAY FOR THEIR WAR INJURIES.
Bad press, including major mockery of the plan by comedian Jon Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540 million annual cost to the federal government of treatment for injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty. The President admitte d that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal.
"Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained. "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute.." "I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country, "Obama continued "I wasn't asking for blood, just money. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I'd have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help reduce the nation's deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans."
Please pass this on to every one including every vet and their families whom you know. How in the world did a person with this mindset become our leader?
REMEMBER THIS STATEMENT... "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice?"
If he thinks he will ever get another vote from an Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard service member or veteran of a military service he ought to think it over.. If you or a family member is or has served their country please pass this to them. "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." Thomas Jefferson
14. It's been my experience that right wingers do not trust snopes or any source |
|
that contradicts their bigoted views.
As I mentioned in the OP...I already looked there, that's why I posted this...hopefully, someone might know where I can refute this with something concrete. But thanks...
9. I get stuff like that all the time, even from |
|
old school friends. I have finally, before deleting, told them not to send any more of this crap as it simply is not true. Thankfully, they have obliged. One doesn't email at all anymore, but that is okay. She is a racist.
10. Do you think it would be too rude to ask the folks who sent you that stuff to cite their source? |
11. Ask them for a verifiable source |
|
And if they can't provide one tell them they are a bunch of liars and brainwashed fools. Also,look in DU Vets forum.There are plenty of posts there about the VA under bush forcing vets to repay the goverment for things like uniforms and equipment destroyed in combat,re-enlistment bonus's after career ending injuries,stories of shitty treatment of vets in VA hospitals.
12. I'd say they've officially gotten |
|
"to far into politics". Do you really want to socialize with people who expect you to deal with this level of lying?
Dump them, and don't waste time refuting their propaganda. You'll never "convince" them and you'll just invite them to involve you in more passive-aggressive crap.
15. Giving the benefit of the doubt here, I'd say the best outcome would be to share critical thinking |
|
skills.
Ask for sources, as others have said.
Encourage them to question the possibility that they are being lied to for cynical purposes.
