Long-time Gators broadcaster Steve Babik faces federal child pornography charges

GAINESVILLE — Long-time University of Florida radio and television sports broadcaster Steve Babik was arrested by federal agents Tuesday on one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of pornography.

His arrest came on the same day that former Gators cornerback Wondy Pierre-Louis turned himself in to Gainesville Police to face charges of domestic battery.

Babik, a Gator football sideline reporter for 23 years and the host of the Urban Meyer Post-Game Show, is charged with knowingly receiving, possessing and distributing "materials depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit content" several times between Nov. 2 and Nov. 30.

Babik, 50, faces to a maximum 20 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine on the distribution charge, and a maximum of 10 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine on the possession charge. Babik is married with two teenage children.
